BMW builds its reputation on how its cars drive and how they feel inside, and reviewers consistently come back to the same two points: steering and body control that flatter the driver, and cabins that feel a cut above mainstream rivals. The current BMW line-up we price runs to 24 models across four body styles - SUV, Saloon, Hatchback and Coupe.

Eleven of those models are SUVs, seven are saloons, four are hatchbacks and two are coupes. Fourteen offer petrol, eight are electric only, seven include a plug-in hybrid version and four offer diesel.

Choosing is mostly a question of size, seats and powertrain rather than badge, and the electric flagship SUV is a good example. The BMW IX seats five, carries 500 litres of luggage, measures 4.97 m long and tows up to 2,500 kg braked.

About BMW

BMW is a German premium manufacturer whose cars are judged on driving feel first and comfort second. Across every model we price, the manufacturer warranty is the same: three years with unlimited mileage, which matters more to high-mileage drivers than to most.

The range stretches a long way. The 1 Series measures 4.36 m nose to tail, the I7 saloon around 5.4 m, so the same badge covers a car you can thread through a multi-storey and a full-size luxury saloon.

Electrification is no longer a side project either. Eight of the 24 models we price are electric only, and reviewers repeatedly praise how quiet and composed those cars are at motorway speed. Build quality and infotainment tend to score well in owner surveys; running costs and the move to screen-based controls attract more criticism.

The BMW range we lease

We price 24 BMW models: eleven SUVs, four hatchbacks, seven saloons and two coupes. Below, each one gets a short summary of what it is for and the figures that decide most leases - seats, boot space, length and towing. Every model has its own page.

BMW SUVs

The BMW IX is the electric SUV at the top of the range, with five seats, a 500-litre boot and a 4.97 m body. It tows up to 2,500 kg braked and comes in two trims. Deals start from £845.38 a month.

The BMW IX1 is the compact electric SUV, at 4.50 m long with a 490-litre boot and five seats. Braked towing is up to 1,200 kg and four trims are priced. Deals start from £414.36 a month.

The BMW IX2 takes the same compact electric idea with a sloping coupe roofline. It is 4.55 m long, holds 525 litres, seats five, carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating and tows up to 1,200 kg across three trims. Deals start from £407.94 a month.

The BMW IX3 is the mid-size electric SUV: 4.78 m long, 520-litre boot, five seats, five-star Euro NCAP and braked towing up to 2,000 kg. Three trims are priced. Deals start from £671.59 a month.

The BMW X1 is the flexible family choice, offered with petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power. It is about 4.50 m long with a 476 to 540-litre boot depending on version, five seats, five-star Euro NCAP and 2,000 kg braked towing. Deals start from £290.96 a month.

The BMW X2 is the style-led version of that compact SUV formula, petrol only, about 4.55 m long with 515 to 560 litres of boot space. Five seats, five-star Euro NCAP, 1,800 kg braked towing, two trims. Deals start from £511.81 a month.

The BMW X3 is the archetypal premium family SUV, available as petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid. It runs to 4.76 m, holds 460 to 570 litres, seats five, scores five stars at Euro NCAP and tows up to 2,500 kg. Deals start from £572.50 a month.

The BMW X6 trades a little headroom for a coupe profile, in petrol or diesel. At 4.96 m long it still swallows 580 litres, seats five and tows up to 2,700 kg braked, across two trims. Deals start from £1,058.96 a month.

The BMW X6 M is the full M Division treatment of that car: petrol, 4.95 m long, 580-litre boot, five seats and braked towing up to 3,000 kg, in a single M Competition trim. Deals start from £1,850.69 a month.

The BMW X7 is the one to look at if you need a third row. It seats six or seven, measures 5.18 m, comes in petrol or diesel across three trims, and tows up to 3,500 kg braked - the most of any BMW we price. Boot space with every seat in use is 300 litres. Deals start from £1,203.32 a month.

The BMW XM is the plug-in hybrid performance SUV, 5.11 m long with a 527-litre boot, five seats and 2,700 kg of braked towing. Two trims are priced. Deals start from £1,816.40 a month.

BMW hatchbacks

The BMW 1 Series is the entry point and, at 4.36 m, the shortest car in the range. Petrol only, five seats, a 300 to 380-litre boot depending on version, a four-star Euro NCAP rating and 1,300 kg braked towing, in four trims. Deals start from £253.08 a month.

The BMW 2 Series spans four body styles, each with its own page, in petrol or plug-in hybrid form. Expect four or five seats, 360 to 430 litres of boot and about 4.39 m of length, with six trims priced. Deals start from £266.16 a month.

The BMW 4 Series is the sharper-suited option, petrol only, at about 4.77 m with 385 to 470 litres of luggage room and four or five seats. Six trims and four body styles are covered on its page. Deals start from £592.87 a month.

The BMW I4 is the electric five-door in that mould: 4.78 m long, 470-litre boot, five seats, a four-star Euro NCAP rating and 1,600 kg braked towing, across three trims. Deals start from £411.23 a month.

BMW saloons

The BMW 3 Series remains the company-car staple, in petrol or plug-in hybrid. It measures about 4.71 m, seats five, carries 375 to 500 litres depending on version and tows up to 1,800 kg, with six trims and three body styles. Deals start from £489.05 a month.

The BMW 5 Series is the long-distance executive car, petrol or plug-in hybrid, 5.06 m long with 520 to 570 litres of boot, five seats, five-star Euro NCAP and 2,000 kg braked towing. Two trims, three body styles. Deals start from £639.38 a month.

The BMW I3 is an electric saloon of 4.76 m with a 420-litre boot, five seats and braked towing up to 1,800 kg, offered in a single trim. Deals start from £756.10 a month.

The BMW I5 is the electric executive saloon, 5.06 m long, seating five, with 490 to 570 litres of boot depending on version and 2,000 kg braked towing. Four trims and three body styles. Deals start from £686.56 a month.

The BMW I7 is the electric limousine and the longest car here at around 5.4 m. Five seats, a 500-litre boot, 2,000 kg braked towing and six trims to choose between. Deals start from £956.75 a month.

The BMW M3 is the performance saloon, petrol, 4.80 m long, five seats and a 480 to 500-litre boot depending on version. One trim, three body styles on its page. Deals start from £1,121.24 a month.

The BMW M5 now arrives as a plug-in hybrid. It is 5.10 m long, seats five, holds 466 to 500 litres, tows up to 2,000 kg braked, and is priced in two trims across three body styles. Deals start from £1,135.02 a month.

BMW coupes

The BMW M2 is the compact petrol coupe, 4.58 m long with four seats and a 390-litre boot, in one trim. It is the purist choice in the range and reviewers consistently single out its rear-drive balance. Deals start from £933.53 a month.

The BMW M4 is the larger petrol coupe at 4.80 m, with four seats and 385 to 440 litres of boot depending on version. One trim is priced, and three body styles are covered on its page. Deals start from £1,239.46 a month.

Electric and hybrid BMW models

Eight BMW models we price are electric only: the IX, IX1, IX2, IX3, I4, I3, I5 and I7. Seven more offer a plug-in hybrid version, so there is a route out of pure petrol at almost every size.

On the electric side the choice runs from the 4.50 m IX1 with its 490-litre boot up to the I7 at around 5.4 m, with the I4 and I5 covering the saloon and five-door middle ground. The IX2 and IX3 both hold a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

For plug-in hybrids, the X1 and X3 cover family SUV duty, the 2 Series, 3 Series and 5 Series cover hatchback and saloon needs, and the XM and M5 sit at the performance end. Why lease a BMW?

Leasing suits BMW ownership because the warranty and the contract line up. Every BMW we price carries a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty, which covers the usual lease term without a mileage ceiling on the cover itself.

A lease also fixes your monthly cost against a car whose depreciation you never have to settle. You hand it back at the end, and the difference between what it was worth new and what it is worth then is not your problem.

The 3 Series is a good illustration: available as a petrol or a plug-in hybrid, about 4.71 m long, five seats and a boot of 375 to 500 litres depending on version. It is the sort of car people keep for exactly three years and then change.

Which BMW should you choose?

Start with what the car has to do. Seats, boot, towing weight and whether you can charge at home will narrow 24 models down to two or three faster than any amount of trim comparison.

For the smallest, easiest to park BMW, the 1 Series is 4.36 m long with a 300 to 380-litre boot. For a five-seat family SUV with a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid, the X1 and X3 both hold a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

If you tow, the X7 pulls up to 3,500 kg braked, the most of any BMW we price, and it is also the only model here with six or seven seats. The X6 M is next in line if a trailer and a performance SUV have to be the same car.

Going electric, the IX1 and IX2 suit smaller driveways, the IX3 and I4 cover most family use, and the I5, I7 and IX handle long motorway miles.
