Kia builds mainstream cars with long warranties, generous standard equipment and, increasingly, some of the best electric powertrains in the business. The 14 Kia models we price today run from a city hatchback to a seven-seat electric SUV, across SUV, hatchback and MPV body styles.

Ten of those models are SUVs, three are hatchbacks and one is an MPV. Seven are sold only as electric cars, five offer petrol, three offer a self-charging hybrid, three offer a plug-in hybrid, and one - the Sorento - still offers diesel.

Choosing between them is mostly a question of size, seats and how you fuel up. Decide how many people you carry, whether you can charge at home and whether you tow, and the list shortens quickly: the EV2 sits at the compact electric end, the EV9 at the large seven-seat end.

Every Kia we price carries the same 7-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, which is unusually long for a mainstream brand and one of the main reasons the badge keeps appearing on shortlists.

The range is broad rather than niche. It stretches from the Picanto at 3.60 m to the EV9 at 5.01 m, and seven of the 14 models are electric-only, which puts Kia further down the electric road than most of its rivals.

We price 14 Kia models: ten SUVs, three hatchbacks and one MPV. Each has its own page with the trims and terms we can arrange. Below is what each one is for, grouped by body style.

SUVs

The Kia EV2 is the compact electric SUV, built for town driving and shorter commutes. It seats five, carries 362 litres of luggage, measures about 4.06 m and tows up to 750 kg braked, across four trims. Deals start from £257.74 a month.

The Kia EV3 steps up to family-sized electric motoring without a family-sized footprint. Five seats, a 460-litre boot, about 4.30 m long, a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 1,000 kg, in three trims. Deals start from £323.03 a month.

The Kia EV4 suits drivers who want a low-slung electric car with real boot space. It seats five, holds 435-490 litres depending on version, measures about 4.43 m, holds a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and tows up to 1,000 kg. Deals start from £302.45 a month.

The Kia EV5 is the straightforward electric family SUV: five seats, a 566-litre boot, 4.61 m of length and braked towing up to 1,800 kg, in four trims. If you want space without a third row, start here. Deals start from £399.92 a month.

The Kia EV6 is the sleeker, more driver-focused electric choice. Five seats, 480-490 litres of boot depending on version, 4.70 m long, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, towing up to 1,800 kg braked and five trims to pick from. Deals start from £426.38 a month.

The Kia EV9 is the big one: 5.01 m long, six or seven seats, a 333-litre boot and braked towing up to 2,500 kg, which is the most of any Kia we price. Two trims. Deals start from £742.02 a month.

The Kia Niro is the electrified crossover for drivers not ready to go fully electric, offered as a self-charging hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. Five seats, 348-451 litres depending on version, 4.42 m, 4-star Euro NCAP, 1,300 kg braked towing, five trims. Deals start from £359.63 a month.

The Kia Sorento is the large seven-seater, available as diesel, self-charging hybrid or plug-in hybrid. It's 4.82 m long, holds 175-179 litres depending on version, carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and tows up to 2,500 kg braked. Deals start from £510.59 a month.

The Kia Sportage is the all-rounder: petrol, self-charging hybrid or plug-in hybrid, five seats, 540-591 litres of boot depending on version, 4.54 m long and braked towing up to 1,650 kg, in four trims. Deals start from £294.24 a month.

The Kia Stonic is the small petrol crossover for drivers who want a raised seating position and an easy footprint. Five seats, a 352-litre boot, 4.17 m long, braked towing up to 900 kg and three trims. Deals start from £264.49 a month.

Hatchbacks

The Kia K4 is the petrol family hatchback, and a reminder that Kia hasn't abandoned the class. Five seats, 328-438 litres depending on version, 4.44 m long, braked towing up to 1,410 kg and three trims. Deals start from £292.76 a month.

The Kia Picanto is the city car: petrol, five seats, a 255-litre boot and three trims. Reviewers have long rated it as one of the better small cars still being built, and it's the easiest Kia to thread through tight streets. Deals start from £219.54 a month.

The Kia Xceed is the crossover-styled petrol hatchback, sitting a little higher than a conventional five-door. Five seats, 380-426 litres depending on version, 4.40 m long, braked towing up to 1,410 kg, three trims. Deals start from £324.42 a month.

MPV

The Kia PV5 is the electric MPV, designed around people and luggage rather than styling. Five or seven seats, 350-1,330 litres depending on version, 4.70 m long, a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and 1,500 kg braked towing. Deals start from £357.86 a month.

Electric and hybrid Kia models

Seven Kia models are electric-only: the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9 and PV5. Three more offer a plug-in hybrid - the Niro, Sportage and Sorento - and the same three models are available as self-charging hybrids.

That gives you a genuine ladder rather than a single token EV. The EV2 covers compact electric duty, the EV3, EV4, EV5 and EV6 handle family mileage, the EV9 carries six or seven people and the PV5 does the MPV job on electricity.

If you can't charge at home yet, the plug-in hybrid Niro, Sportage or Sorento cover short electric trips with a petrol engine behind them. In practice that means the mechanical risk sits with Kia for the whole contract, and the value risk sits with the funder rather than you. You budget for the rental, the servicing schedule and your insurance, and hand the car back at the end.

Which Kia should you choose?

Start with what the car has to do. Seats and boot narrow the list faster than anything else, then fuel type, then towing. Here's the short version for the most common requirements.

Smallest and easiest to park: the Picanto, at 3.60 m. If you want a slightly raised driving position in a similar footprint, the Stonic is 4.17 m with a 352-litre boot.

Family car: the Sportage carries five with 540-591 litres of boot depending on version, and gives you petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid. The EV5 does the same job on electricity, with a 566-litre boot.

Seven seats: the Sorento, the EV9 and the PV5. The Sorento offers diesel, hybrid or plug-in hybrid; the other two are electric, and the PV5 can be specified with five or seven seats.

Towing: the EV9 pulls up to 2,500 kg braked, the most of any Kia we price, and the Sorento also tows up to 2,500 kg.
