MG sells on a straightforward promise: a lot of car, a lot of standard equipment and a long warranty for the money. The current MG line-up has moved a long way from the two-seat sports cars the badge is remembered for.

We price eleven MG models today, across three body styles: eight SUVs, two hatchbacks and one convertible. Seven of them are electric only, and every one carries a 7-year / 80,000-mile manufacturer warranty.

Choosing between them comes down to size and powertrain. The MG HS is the natural starting point for a family - it's offered as a petrol, a self-charging hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, seats five, and takes 507 to 630 litres of luggage depending on version.

About MG

MG is a British marque that has rebuilt itself around affordable, generously equipped family cars and a fast-growing electric range. Reviewers consistently praise the kit-for-money on offer and the length of the cover behind it.

That cover is the same right across the cars we price: 7 years or 80,000 miles from the manufacturer, with servicing due every 12 months or 15,000 miles. Few mainstream brands publish a warranty that long.

The range stretches from the 4.11 m MG3 to the 4.98 m MGS9, so there's something here for a tight city street and something for a seven-person household. Seven of the eleven models we price are electric only, which tells you where the brand has put its effort.

The MG range we lease

Eleven MG models are priced on this page: eight SUVs, two hatchbacks and one convertible. Seven are electric only, three offer petrol, three offer a self-charging hybrid and two offer a plug-in hybrid. Here's what each one does.

SUVs

The MG HS is the all-rounder: a five-seat family SUV of about 4.66 m, available as petrol, self-charging hybrid or plug-in hybrid, with a 507 to 630-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 1,500 kg. Two trims. Deals start from £356.45 a month.

The MG IM6 is the large electric SUV, at 4.90 m long with five seats and 646 to 665 litres of boot space depending on version. It holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and tows up to 1,500 kg braked, across three trims. Deals start from £411.08 a month.

The MG MG4 is the compact electric option at 4.29 m, with five seats, a 388-litre boot and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Braked towing is limited to 500 kg, so it's a commuter and school-run car rather than a tow vehicle. Deals start from £244.72 a month.

The MG MG4 Urban takes a similar electric brief and adds space: 4.40 m long, five seats and a 577-litre boot, again with braked towing up to 500 kg. Two trims to pick from. Deals start from £260.96 a month.

The MG MGS5 is the mid-size electric SUV, 4.48 m long with five seats, a 453-litre boot and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. It'll pull a braked trailer up to 750 kg, which suits a small caravan or a trailer. Deals start from £320.05 a month.

The MG MGS6 is the bigger electric family SUV: 4.71 m, five seats, a 674-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 1,500 kg. Two trims. Deals start from £345.07 a month.

The MG MGS9 is the seven-seater, and a plug-in hybrid. At 4.98 m it's the longest MG we price, with a 332-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and the most braked towing in the range at 2,000 kg. Deals start from £340.04 a month.

The MG ZS is the smaller family SUV, 4.43 m long, in petrol or self-charging hybrid form. Five seats, a 443-litre boot, a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 500 kg. Deals start from Price on request a month.

Hatchbacks

The MG IM5 is the long electric hatchback, 4.93 m nose to tail, with five seats, a 457-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 1,500 kg. Three trims are priced. Deals start from £379.84 a month.

The MG MG3 is the small hatchback, 4.11 m long, in petrol or self-charging hybrid form. Five seats, a 241 to 293-litre boot depending on version, a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 500 kg. Deals start from £238.57 a month.

Convertible

The MG Cyberster is the two-seat electric roadster, and the one model here bought with the heart. It measures 4.54 m, comes in two trims, and carries the same 7-year / 80,000-mile manufacturer warranty as the rest. Deals start from £550.76 a month.

Electric and hybrid MG models

Seven MG models we price are electric only: the IM6, MG4, MG4 Urban, MGS5, MGS6, IM5 and Cyberster. Two more offer a plug-in hybrid, and three offer a self-charging hybrid, so there's a step at every stage.

If you want to plug in but keep an engine, the HS and the MGS9 both offer plug-in hybrid power - the MGS9 with seven seats, the HS with five. The ZS and the MG3 pair petrol with a self-charging hybrid, which needs no cable at all.

For a pure electric family car, the MGS6 offers a 674-litre boot, the IM6 646 to 665 litres, and the MGS5 453 litres in a 4.48 m body. Why lease a MG?

Leasing an MG suits drivers who want the low monthly cost without carrying the risk of what the car is worth in three or four years. Every MG we price comes with a 7-year / 80,000-mile manufacturer warranty and servicing every 12 months or 15,000 miles.

On a typical lease term, that warranty covers the whole contract with years to spare, and the service interval means fewer garage visits than many rivals demand. Depreciation - usually the largest cost of owning a car outright - is the funder's problem, not yours.

It also makes the more indulgent choices easier to justify. The two-seat Cyberster is an electric roadster at 4.54 m, offered in two trims, and a fixed monthly rental is a far simpler way to run one than buying it.

Which MG should you choose?

Start with what the car has to do. The MG3, at 4.11 m, is the shortest MG we price and the easiest to thread through a city; it offers petrol or self-charging hybrid power and a 241 to 293-litre boot.

For a family of five, the HS covers the most ground, with a 507 to 630-litre boot and a choice of petrol, self-charging hybrid or plug-in hybrid. The MGS6 is the electric equivalent, with a 674-litre boot and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

Towing? The MGS9 is rated for up to 2,000 kg braked, more than any other MG here, and it's the only seven-seater we price. The HS, IM6, MGS6 and IM5 each manage up to 1,500 kg braked.

If you're going electric, the choice runs from the 4.29 m MG4 up to the 4.90 m IM6, with the MG4 Urban, MGS5, MGS6 and IM5 in between. And if none of that matters because you just want the roof down, the two-seat Cyberster is the only convertible in the range.
