The BMW Z4 is a classic looking convertible roadster that is an upmarket sports car to impress. It is also great to drive with excellent handling abilities.
There's no diesel option for the BMW Z4 though drivers get an excellent choice of petrol engines. Among them is the sDrive18i which produces 156 bhp from its 2.0litre engine and will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just under eight seconds. The economy is 42 mpg while emissions are 159g/km. The sDrive20i offers better performance while having the same economy figures. Those who enjoy bigger engines and more performance should take a look at the sDrive35is which has an engine that produces 340 bhp and will do the same sprint distance in just 4.8 seconds though it's economy drops to 30 mpg with emissions of 219g/km. Its top speed is limited to 155 mph. The engines are coupled to a six speed manual gearbox and there's the option of an automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering column.
The BMW Z4 offers a refined and quiet driving experience when the roof is up, and it is great fun when the roof is down. As a two-seater convertible, the Z4 offers high levels of performance and is nimble around town and comfortable to drive on long journeys. The boot is a decent size for the car and the seats are comfortable.
The list of standard equipment is good with satnav, air conditioning, alloy wheels, leather steering wheel, xenon headlights, Bluetooth connectivity and an MP3 player port. Other models come with a sports body kit and suspension, leather trim and a dual clutch gearbox. The handling is excellent and offers a rewarding drive; the engines help deliver an impressive experience and, unlike some of its rivals, the Z4 also makes for a useful day-to-day car rather than just a weekend sports car.
Essentially, the stylish Z4 competes in a segment that has a number of excellent roadsters but this two-seater is better than most.
