The BMW i7 is BMW's electric flagship saloon - a 5.40 m, five-seat limousine with a 118.1 kWh battery, all-wheel drive and up to 451.7 miles of WLTP range in its most efficient form. It sits at the very top of BMW's car range, above the i5.

It suits anyone who spends long hours in a car and wants silence rather than drama: company directors, chauffeur operators, and drivers doing motorway miles who can charge at home or at work. Rear passengers are the point as much as the driver.

The choice is simple in structure. One body, one electric powertrain in two power outputs, four everyday trims - i7 entry model, M Sport, M Sport Pro and Ultimate Edition - plus the performance M70 and M70 Ultimate Edition.

About the BMW i7

The i7 is the electric version of BMW's long-running 7 Series flagship, and it's the quietest, most comfortable car the company builds. Five seats, a 500-litre boot and a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty come with every version.

Reviewers consistently single out the ride and the hush inside - air suspension smothers poor surfaces, and several road testers rate it above its German rivals for refinement and cabin quality. The styling divides opinion, and nobody pretends otherwise.

The usual criticisms are the sheer size, which makes UK multi-storeys a genuine consideration, and an infotainment system with more layers than most people need. Rear-seat space, though, is enormous.

Why lease a BMW i7?

Because the i7 arrives generously equipped whichever version you pick, and a lease keeps a six-figure luxury EV as a fixed monthly cost rather than an asset you have to sell on later. Every i7 shares the same core kit list.

Standard across the range: head-up display, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, self-steering parking assistance, automatic high beam and LED headlights. Four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, air suspension, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and a hands-free tailgate are also fitted to every trim.

Which i7 powertrain is right for me?

There's one: a fully electric, all-wheel-drive setup with an automatic transmission, offered in two power levels across the range. No petrol, no diesel, no hybrid - so home or workplace charging matters.

Electric

The 118.1 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of up to 451.7 miles, with power from 449 bhp to 671 bhp depending on version. Charging peaks at 250 kW, which takes a rapid charger from 10-80% in 28 minutes on the best version. It's automatic and all-wheel drive throughout.

Which i7 trim should I choose?

Six versions, and the split is mostly about wheels, roof and seat comfort rather than mechanical difference - until you reach the M70.

i7 entry model

Far from basic. It runs 449 bhp and all-wheel drive on 20-inch "Aerodynamics 1097m" alloys with artificial leather upholstery, and includes BMW Panoramic vision, a heated steering wheel, BMW 3D Head and the wireless charging tray plus.

It also gets an opening panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats, powered tailgate, automatic parking assist and adaptive suspension. Privacy glass, ventilated and massaging front seats and a retractable towbar are available as options. Deals for this trim come and go, so ask our team what's arrangeable.

M Sport

M Sport keeps the 449 bhp powertrain and artificial leather but swaps to 20-inch "M Aerodynamics 907m" alloys, and adds paddle shifters behind the wheel. The same option list applies, including the fixed panoramic glass roof and massaging front seats.

The M Sport is currently available from £981.14 a month.

M Sport Pro

M Sport Pro is about appearance rather than extra equipment - the visible change is a move up to 21-inch "Star Spoke Style 908m" alloy wheels. Upholstery stays artificial leather, and paddle shifters join the option list here.

The M Sport Pro is currently available from £1,001.06 a month. Against the M Sport, that is currently £19.92/mo more expensive.

Ultimate Edition

This is the comfort-led choice. Ultimate Edition brings the Skylounge panoramic glass sunroof, ventilated front seats and a massage function for the front seats, along with real leather upholstery, privacy glass and 21-inch "Multi-spoke Style 1055" alloys.

The Ultimate Edition is currently available from £1,234.33 a month. Against the M Sport Pro, that is currently £233.27/mo more expensive.

M70

Now the performance versions. The M70 produces 671 bhp and wears 21-inch "M Aerodynamics 909m" alloys with leather trim. It adds an opening panoramic roof plus heated front and rear seats, and testers say it stays remarkably composed for something this heavy.

The M70 is currently available from £1,542.16 a month. Against the Ultimate Edition, that is currently £307.82/mo more expensive.

M70 Ultimate Edition

An edition of the M70, so the same 671 bhp, with the Skylounge panoramic glass sunroof, ventilated front seats, massage function for the front seats and 21-inch "Multi-spoke Style 1055" alloys. The retractable towbar remains optional.

The M70 Ultimate Edition is currently available from £1,783.87 a month. Against the M70, that is currently £241.72/mo more expensive.

Exec Pack and Exec Lounge Pack

Two optional packs sit on top of a trim rather than replacing it: the Exec Pack and the Exec Lounge Pack, both aimed at rear-seat occupants. Availability varies by version, so check the individual deal before ordering.
