Engines and performance for the MG ZS

There are two petrol engines available for the MG ZS - a 1.0 litre or a 1.5 litre choice. The smaller turbocharged engine develops more power and is mated to an automatic gearbox, while the larger engine is coupled to a five-speed manual box. The turbocharged 1.0 litre unit will return around 42 mpg while the larger engine returns 45 mpg. It's also worth noting that MG offers its MG ZS EV which is an all-electric version offering a decent range and emissions-free motoring.

Equipment and handling

The MG ZS is an SUV designed to deliver affordability and practicality for families. The interior is a spacious place to spend time and there are lots of soft touch materials to make it look like a premium offering. The ZS has an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity and is easy to use. The boot size is a useful 448 litres and the steering is precise with the suspension delivering good grip, particularly on country roads. This is also a pleasant car to drive round town and comfortable on long journeys. Standard equipment for the ZS includes electric front windows and cruise control with other models having air conditioning and larger alloy wheels. The range topper comes with leather upholstery. While it's an easy car to drive around town, some may prefer to have the Excite trim which comes with rear parking sensors to make parking the ZS much easier. Essentially, the MG ZS has a lot to like about it, including an excellent interior and decent levels of handling and a spacious cabin to make it a sound alternative choice against its better-known rivals.
