The BMW X3 is an excellent choice for a compact SUV and it is great fun to drive with a well-made interior. Enjoy BMW's quality build and touch of luxury in a great package.
There's a wide range of engines and models to choose from though the xDrive20d merits a closer look because it's a quiet vehicle with good performance. Drivers should enjoy economy of 57 mpg and with an eight speed auto gearbox, along with paddle shifters, they will find a very slick performing car. Indeed, along with the automatic transmission, the adaptive suspension delivers a satisfying driving experience that most rivals cannot beat.
The entry-level 18d will return 60 mpg and still offer good performance while the fast 35d will return around 50 mpg and sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds. All of the engines offer decent levels of performance, particularly when compared with their rivals, and for the size of the car they travel quickly. However, it might be an idea to opt for the damping system which helps provide a more stable driving experience without excessive body lean on corners at speed.
The BMW X3 is a comfortable place to be, particularly on long journeys with sharp steering and a comfortable ride. Standard equipment includes cruise control, parking sensors, alloy wheels, heated front seats and Bluetooth connectivity. As with all BMW's, there's also a lengthy options list too.
The X3 makes for a practical choice, there's plenty of space on board for passengers and a large boot. There's also plenty of torque to make it a good towing vehicle. Insulation levels are high which means the interior is quiet, even when driving at speed.
The interior of the X3 makes it a pleasant place to be, everything is well-designed and made with materials that have a nice touch. Practicality is also important and everything feels robust and solid so it’s a good choice for families too.
Essentially, every BMW X3 comes with four-wheel drive but the vast majority of drivers will not be taking them off tarmac - despite this, the X3 is an excellent all-round compact SUV which offers a lot of fun and enjoyment.
