Renault is the French brand that has spent decades making small cars people genuinely enjoy driving, and it moved into electric power earlier and more seriously than most of its rivals. The line-up we can lease today runs to nine models in SUV, hatchback and estate form.

Five of those nine are SUVs, three are hatchbacks and one is an estate. Five offer a self-charging hybrid, four are electric only, three are available with petrol power, and one, the Rafale, adds a plug-in hybrid. Choose your size first, then your fuel.

About Renault

Renault is a mainstream French manufacturer known for superminis, practical family cars and an early commitment to electric power. Reviewers consistently praise its cabin design, its Google-based infotainment and the way its smaller models drive.

That electric push shows in what we lease: four of the nine models are battery-only, and each of those carries a three-year, 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty.

There's real breadth of size, too. The range starts with the 3.92 m Renault 5 and stretches to the 4.71 m Rafale, which is a wide spread to cover with one badge.

On reliability, Renault tends to sit mid-table rather than top of the class, and reviewers usually describe the faults as niggles rather than roadside failures. Styling, cabin quality and value are where the brand is strongest at the moment.

The Renault range we lease

Nine models in three body styles. The SUVs run from a 4.14 m town car to a 4.71 m coupe-styled flagship, the hatchbacks cover an electric supermini through to a family EV, and the estate is battery-only.

Renault SUVs

The 4 is a compact electric SUV with five seats, a 339-litre boot and a 4.14 m footprint, so it parks like a small hatch. Euro NCAP awarded it four stars, and braked towing is capped at 750 kg. Deals start from £196.85 a month.

The Renault Austral is the self-charging hybrid family SUV, 4.53 m long with five seats and three trims. It's the towing choice here, rated to pull up to 1,500 kg braked, and it comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty. Deals start from £337.43 a month.

The Renault Captur suits drivers who want a raised driving position without much extra metal: 4.24 m, five seats, a boot of 326 to 422 litres depending on version. Petrol and self-charging hybrid, four Euro NCAP stars, towing to 1,200 kg. Deals start from £198.46 a month.

The Renault Rafale is the flagship, at 4.71 m with a 465 to 530-litre boot and four trims. It's the one model offered as a plug-in hybrid as well as a self-charging hybrid, holds five stars from Euro NCAP and tows up to 1,500 kg. Deals start from £290.44 a month.

The Renault Symbioz sits in the middle of the SUV pack at 4.41 m, with a 434-litre boot, five seats and a choice of petrol or self-charging hybrid. Warranty here is two years or 100,000 miles, with four Euro NCAP stars and 1,200 kg braked towing. Deals start from £190.21 a month.

Renault hatchbacks

The Renault 5 is the electric supermini, 3.92 m long with a 250 to 277-litre boot and seven trims to choose between. Four Euro NCAP stars, a three-year, 100,000-mile warranty and towing capped at 500 kg. Deals start from £241.22 a month.

The Renault Clio remains the sensible everyday option for drivers not ready to go electric, offered with petrol or a self-charging hybrid across four trims. It measures 4.05 m, seats five, holds 254 to 284 litres and tows up to 900 kg. Deals start from £199.03 a month.

The Renault Megane e-TECH is the electric family hatchback: 4.20 m, five seats, a 440-litre boot and two trims. It carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating, tows up to 900 kg and comes with the three-year, 100,000-mile warranty. Deals start from £327.80 a month.

Renault estates

The Renault Scenic e-TECH is the load-carrier of the electric models, with a 545-litre boot, five seats and three trims inside a 4.47 m body. Five Euro NCAP stars, towing to 1,100 kg and a three-year, 100,000-mile warranty. Deals start from £337.93 a month.

Electric and hybrid Renault models

Four Renault models are electric only: the 4, the 5, the Megane e-TECH and the Scenic e-TECH. Each carries a three-year, 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, and they range from a 3.92 m supermini to a 545-litre estate.

If you want to drop petrol without plugging in, five models offer a self-charging hybrid - the Austral, Captur, Clio, Rafale and Symbioz - which charges its own battery as you drive and needs no cable at all.

Why lease a Renault?

Leasing a Renault means you run the car through its warranted years and hand it back. Manufacturer cover across this range runs to two or three years, with mileage ceilings of 60,000 or 100,000 miles depending on the model you choose.

Every lease we arrange includes road tax for the contract term and the manufacturer warranty that comes with the car. Servicing and tyres are your responsibility unless you add maintenance, which spreads those costs into the monthly rental.

Which Renault should you choose?

Start with the job the car has to do. The Renault 5 is the smallest thing here at 3.92 m, which makes it the easiest to thread through a city and park; the Rafale, at 4.71 m, is the other end of the scale.

For family duty, the Scenic e-TECH offers a 545-litre boot and the Symbioz 434 litres, while the Rafale carries 465 to 530 litres depending on version. All three seat five.

Towing a caravan or trailer? The Austral is the towing choice in this line-up, rated to 1,500 kg braked, with the Rafale also rated to 1,500 kg. The Captur and Symbioz manage 1,200 kg.

Going electric gives you four choices: the 4, the 5, the Megane e-TECH and the Scenic e-TECH. If you need seven seats, be aware that none of the Renault models we lease offers them - every one is a five-seater, so look at body style and boot size instead.
