View dealThe Renault 5 is a small electric hatchback with 1970s styling cues and thoroughly modern underpinnings. At 3.92 metres long with a 10.3-metre turning circle, it's built first and foremost for towns, suburbs and the daily commute, and it does that job better than almost anything else its size.
It suits drivers who can charge at home or at work, cover most of their miles locally, and want something with five doors and five seats that doesn't feel like a penalty box. Rear legroom is tight for adults, so think of it as a car for two with occasional passengers rather than a full family hauler.
The choice is simple: one hatchback body, one electric powertrain offered with a 40 kWh or 52 kWh battery, and seven trims - Evolution, Techno, Iconic Five, Techno +, Iconic Five +, Roland Garros and Roland Garros +. You'll find the rest of Renault's range here.

The current 5 revives one of Renault's best-known nameplates as a five-seat electric supermini. It's a modern reinterpretation rather than a copy, and the styling is the reason most people stop to look at it.
Reviewers consistently rate the way it drives: light, accurate steering, a firm but well-controlled ride, and genuine composure on country roads as well as in traffic. Several road testers single out the brake pedal, which blends regenerative and friction braking more smoothly than many rivals manage.
Practicality is the honest weak spot. The boot holds between 250 and 277 litres with the rear seats up depending on version, and knee room behind a tall driver is limited. Renault covers the car with a 3-year / 100,000-mile warranty, and the battery separately for 8 years / 100,000 miles.
Leasing suits a car like this because the 5 is a technology product as much as a supermini, and a fixed term lets you hand it back and move on. Every version also arrives well equipped, which keeps the specification decision simple.
Across the range you get keyless entry and start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, automatic high beam, rain-sensing wipers and an electric parking brake. Safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition, and the 5 holds a 4-star Euro NCAP rating, with 80% for adult occupant protection.
A heat pump is standard too, which helps the car hold on to range in cold weather - worth having on a small battery. If EVs are new to you, our electric car guide covers the basics before you order.
There's one answer here: the 5 is electric only. No petrol, no hybrid, no manual gearbox - you plug it in, and the battery size you choose decides how often.
A 40–52 kWh battery with 121–148 bhp, automatic and front-wheel drive, giving up to 252 miles of WLTP range on the best version. The best version takes 15–80% in 30 minutes at 100 kW, or 0–100% in four hours on an 11 kW home charger. It suits anyone with off-street charging; 0-62 mph takes 7.9–9.0 seconds.

Seven trims, and the real decisions are driver aids, infotainment and interior finish - every version rides on 18-inch alloys and has rear parking sensors as standard.
The starting point: 18-inch black diamond alloys, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, an exterior temperature display and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It uses the 121 bhp motor. Deals for Evolution come and go, so ask our team what's available.
Techno adds the kit most people miss day to day: built-in navigation with Google voice assistant, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go, wireless phone charging and a synthetic leather steering wheel. Privacy glass, ambient lighting, a wi-fi hotspot, power-folding mirrors and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror come too.
Over Techno, Iconic Five brings 18-inch Chrono black diamond alloys, artificial leather upholstery, a dashboard trim finish, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats and electric lumbar support for the driver. Parking and safety cover widens with front, rear and side sensors, self-steering parking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Techno + pairs the 148 bhp motor and larger battery with Techno-style equipment: 18-inch black diamond alloys, cloth upholstery and rear parking sensors. If range matters more to you than heated seats and chrome-finish wheels, this is the straightforward way to get it.
The Iconic Five treatment applied to the 148 bhp car. Over Techno + it adds 18-inch Chrono black diamond alloys, the dashboard finish, artificial leather trim, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats, the full front, rear and side parking sensor set, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Roland Garros is largely about appearance rather than extra equipment: 18-inch Electro black diamond cut alloy wheels and a distinctive fabric and synthetic leather interior over Iconic Five +. Mechanically it's the same 148 bhp car, so choose it if you want the look.
Same Electro alloys and upholstery as Roland Garros, with the Harman Kardon sound system added.
