View dealThe Renault Clio is a five-door, five-seat supermini and one of the smaller cars in Renault's line-up, sitting below the brand's crossovers and SUVs. It's aimed at drivers who want a compact car for town and commuting without giving up equipment or comfort.
There's one body style - the hatchback - and two powertrains: a 1-litre turbo petrol with a manual gearbox, or a 1.6-litre self-charging hybrid with an automatic. Four trims run from Generation through Techno+ and Techno Esprit Alpine to Iconic Esprit Alpine.
The current Clio has been on sale in this fifth-generation form since 2023. At 4.05 m long with a 10.4 m turning circle, it's an easy car to place in traffic and park, which is most of the reason people choose one.

The Clio is Renault's long-running supermini, and the current car is the fifth generation of a name that has been on British roads since the early 1990s. It carries five people, tows up to 900 kg braked and comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently rate the cabin as one of the better ones in the class, with a mix of soft-touch materials and physical climate controls rather than everything buried in the screen. The common criticisms are rear legroom, which is tight for taller adults, and a firmer ride at low speed than some rivals.
Boot space is 254 to 284 litres with the rear seats up depending on version, rising to between 1,006 and 1,069 litres folded. Servicing is every 12 months or 18,000 miles.
Because the standard equipment list covers the things most drivers actually use, and a lease keeps you in a car still under its three-year manufacturer warranty for the whole contract. Every Clio gets keyless entry and start, climate control and built-in navigation.
Safety and driver-assistance kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. Euro NCAP rated the Clio four stars, with 79% for adult occupant protection, 82% for child occupants, 80% for vulnerable road users and 73% for safety assist.
Practically, it's a five-door with 5 seats, a 900 kg braked towing limit and an 80 kg roof load. There's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel - worth knowing before you order.
Two choices: a 1-litre turbo petrol with a manual gearbox, or a self-charging 1.6-litre hybrid with an automatic. Neither needs plugging in, so the decision comes down to whether you want an automatic and how much of your driving is urban.
A three-cylinder turbo petrol with a six-speed manual and front-wheel drive. It offers 160 Nm, 0-62 mph in 12.2 seconds and WLTP economy of 53.3-54.3 mpg, with CO2 of 118-119 g/km. Insurance group 11, and the larger 284-litre boot. Best if you're happy shifting gears yourself.
A 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 1.2 kWh battery and an automatic gearbox. It never needs plugging in - the battery tops itself up as you drive and brake. WLTP economy is 65.7 mpg and CO2 97 g/km, 0-62 mph takes 9.3 seconds, and the boot is 254 litres. It suits town and stop-start driving.
| Hybrid | Petrol | |

| Seats | 5 | 5 |

Four trims, and the jump between them is mostly screen size, wheels, seat trim and driver-assistance kit rather than anything mechanical.
The entry trim, with the 89 bhp petrol engine. It has 16-inch Boa Vista diamond-cut alloys, cloth upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, a synthetic leather steering wheel, a rear-view camera, and the 7-inch Easy Link touchscreen with built-in navigation plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Generation is currently available from £214.91 a month.
Techno+ moves up to 17-inch Monastella diamond-cut alloys and adds heated front seats, wireless phone charging and an electric parking brake. Upholstery stays cloth and the screen stays at 7 inches, so this one is about everyday comfort kit rather than a different look.
The Techno+ is currently available from £230.44 a month. Against the Generation, that is currently £15.53/mo more expensive.
This adds the sportier 17-inch Esprit Alpine diamond-cut alloys, the larger 9.3-inch Easy Link touchscreen with built-in navigation, a 10-inch digital driver display, automatic high beam, and fabric seats with synthetic leather detailing. Bigger screens and a sharper cabin, on top of everything Techno+ offers.
The Techno Esprit Alpine is currently available from £247.25 a month. Against the Techno+, that is currently £16.81/mo more expensive.
The hybrid trim, with 141 bhp. Over Generation it brings 17-inch Esprit Alpine alloys, the 9.3-inch touchscreen, fabric seats with synthetic leather detailing, heated front seats, a nine-speaker Bose audio system, wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, self-steering parking, automatic high beam and an electric parking brake.
The Iconic Esprit Alpine is currently available from £276.92 a month.
