Renault Rafale Lease Deals

The Renault Rafale is the brand's flagship five-seat coupe-SUV, offered as a self-charging hybrid or a 296bhp plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. This guide explains the two powertrains, the four trims and who the car suits, with live lease deals shown below.

The Renault Rafale is Renault's flagship SUV: a five-seat, five-door SUV measuring 4.71 metres long, sold either as a self-charging hybrid or as a 296bhp plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. It's aimed at family and company-car drivers who want something with more presence than the usual mid-size SUV.

There's one body style, two powertrains and four trims, so the choice is refreshingly simple. Decide first whether you'll plug in; the trim follows from that, because the most powerful version comes in its own specification.

It sits at the top of the Renault range, above the brand's smaller SUVs, and carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating along with a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.

About the Renault Rafale

The Rafale is a large, style-led family SUV with a sloping coupe roofline, five seats and a boot of 465 to 530 litres depending on the version. Renault positions it as the range flagship, and the name comes from a record-breaking 1930s Renault aircraft.

Reviewers consistently praise the cabin: the built-in Google services are rated among the easiest to use in the class. Rear space is better than the roofline suggests, helped by a 2.74-metre wheelbase.

The common criticism is dynamic. Road testers note that despite the sporting look, the steering feels remote and the ride can thump over sharp bumps, so it's a smooth cruiser rather than a genuine driver's car.

Why lease a Renault Rafale?

Because every Rafale arrives well equipped, so you're not obliged to chase a higher trim to get the basics. Keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, privacy glass and ambient lighting are standard across the range.

Safety is strong too: 5 stars from Euro NCAP, with 87% for adult occupant protection, 83% for child occupant protection, 69% for vulnerable road users and 87% for safety assist. Autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam are fitted to every version.

On practicality, it seats five, tows up to 1,500 kg braked and carries up to 1,826 litres with the rear seats folded. Servicing falls every 12 months or 18,000 miles, which suits higher-mileage drivers planning a three or four-year contract.

Which Rafale powertrain is right for me?

Both use a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with an automatic gearbox, and the difference is whether you plug in. The self-charging Hybrid never needs a cable; the Plug-in hybrid does, and rewards you with far more power.

Hybrid (self-charging)

197bhp, front-wheel drive, a 1.7 kWh battery and no charging cable required - the car tops up its own battery as you drive. WLTP economy is 58.9 mpg, CO2 is 108-109 g/km and 0-62 mph takes 8.9 seconds. Sensible if you've nowhere to plug in.

Plug-in hybrid

296bhp, all-wheel drive and a 22.0 kWh battery, with 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds. It charges at up to 7 kW, and the best version takes 2.9 hours for a full charge at 7.4 kW. Worth it only if you can charge regularly, ideally at home.

Renault Rafale FAQs

For a family of up to five, yes. It has five seats, a 2.74-metre wheelbase that gives decent rear legroom despite the coupe roof, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with 83% for child occupant protection, and autonomous emergency braking on every version. It isn't available with seven seats.

No. The self-charging Hybrid has a small 1.7 kWh battery that recharges itself as you drive and brake, so there's no cable and no home charger needed. Only the Plug-in hybrid, with its 22.0 kWh battery, is charged from the mains. Our electric and hybrid leasing guides explain the difference in more detail.

It varies by version: 465 to 530 litres with the rear seats up, rising to 1,826 litres with them folded. The Hybrid gives the larger 530-litre figure; the Plug-in hybrid offers 465 litres because of the bigger battery. Both carry a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

Yes. Both powertrains are rated at 1,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked, with a roof load limit of 80 kg. That covers a small or mid-size caravan or a light trailer. Tell us before you order if you need a towbar, as it has to be specified at build.

Three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, plus a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee and a 3-year paintwork guarantee. The battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity. Servicing is every 12 months or 18,000 miles.

It depends on what's available at the time. Rentals move with term, mileage, initial rental and stock, so the cheapest Rafale this week isn't always the cheapest next week. Check the live Rafale deals below, and our guide to choosing your car covers how mileage and term affect the monthly figure.

Specifications from Renault's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment and availability vary by version, so check the individual deal before ordering.
