In Renault's line-up it sits above the smaller electric models as the practical, longer-legged option, and reviewers consistently rate it among the better electric family cars for range at its size. It carries a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a 3-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
The choice is refreshingly simple. One body, one powertrain - 214 bhp, front-wheel drive, automatic - and three trims: Techno, Techno Esprit Alpine and Iconic Esprit Alpine.

The Scenic E-Tech is a battery-electric five-seater built for family life rather than for thrills, arriving in this form in 2023.
The Scenic name goes back to the 1990s, when Renault more or less invented the compact MPV. This version swaps sliding seats for style and range: a 545-litre boot (1,670 litres with the rear seats folded), a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee and battery cover for 8 years or 100,000 miles at 70% of capacity.
Road testers reliably praise the fast infotainment, the amount of standard kit and the real-world range. The common criticisms are a ride that fidgets over poor town surfaces, rear visibility, and brake pedal feel that takes some getting used to.
Because every version arrives well equipped, so the decision is mostly about how much you want rather than what you need. Adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation and a heat pump are standard across the range.
On safety, every Scenic E-Tech gets autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam, backed by that 5-star Euro NCAP result (88% adult occupant, 89% child occupant). Front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera are fitted throughout.

There's only one, so this part is easy: a single electric motor driving the front wheels through an automatic transmission, with no petrol or diesel alternative in the range.
The 87 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of up to 381 miles, with 214 bhp and 300 Nm for 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds. Rapid charging peaks at 150 kW, taking the best version from 15-80% in 37 minutes; at home, 0-100% takes 5 hours at 22 kW on the best version. Brisk enough, quiet, and happiest cruising.

All three share the same 214 bhp electric powertrain and the same generous standard kit, so you're choosing wheels, seats and cabin theatre.
The entry trim, and genuinely well equipped: 19-inch Streamline diamond cut alloy wheels, full LED headlights with adaptive LED front and rear fog lights, a heated steering wheel, camera-based driver attention monitoring, front and rear park assist, cloth upholstery, climate control and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
The Techno is currently available from £327.16 a month.
This one swaps to 20-inch Speedway diamond cut alloy wheels and adds heated front seats, a rear view camera, intelligent adaptive cruise control and an exterior temperature display. Inside, front sports seats add extra support to match the sportier look.
The Techno Esprit Alpine is currently available from £363.66 a month. Against the Techno, that is currently £36.50/mo more expensive.
The showpiece version. It adds 20-inch Oracle diamond cut alloy wheels, the Solarbay opacifying panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon nine-speaker audio system, a 360 around view 3D camera, an electric driver's seat with massage function and self-steering parking.
The Iconic Esprit Alpine is currently available from £386.74 a month. Against the Techno Esprit Alpine, that is currently £23.08/mo more expensive.
