It sits between Renault's smaller electric models and the larger Scenic, and it is aimed squarely at drivers who want one car for commuting, school runs and the occasional longer trip. Every version is fully electric, with front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox.
The choice is unusually simple. One body, one powertrain - a 60 kWh battery with 214 bhp - and two trims, Techno Esprit Alpine and Iconic Esprit Alpine, so you're really only deciding how much equipment you want.

The Megane E-Tech is the electric reinvention of a nameplate Renault has sold since the 1990s. It's a five-seat hatchback with a 440-litre boot and a WLTP range of up to 280 miles.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin and the Google-based infotainment, which is widely rated among the best systems of its type, and they like how quiet and composed it is on a motorway. The common criticisms are rear leg and head room for taller adults, and a ride that's on the firm side.
Renault covers it with a 3-year / 100,000-mile warranty, with the battery separately guaranteed for 8 years / 100,000 miles to retain at least 70% of its capacity.
Because the equipment list is strong before you choose anything, and because the running-cost picture for an EV works well on a fixed monthly rental. Every Megane E-Tech has heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, wireless charging and built-in navigation.
Safety kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and automatic high beam. Euro NCAP awarded the car five stars, with 85% for adult occupant protection and 88% for child occupant protection.
A heat pump is fitted to every version, which helps efficiency in cold weather - worth having if you park outside. Boot space is 440 litres with the rear seats up and 1,332 litres folded, and braked towing is rated at 900 kg.
There's only one, so this decision is made for you: a 60 kWh battery driving the front wheels through a single-speed automatic. It suits drivers who can charge at home or reliably at work, and who want an EV without a lot of specification homework.
The 60 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of up to 280 miles, with 214 bhp and 300 Nm for 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds. Charging runs at up to 130 kW on a rapid charger, covering 0-100% in 73 minutes on the best version, or 6.4 hours at 11 kW at home. Automatic, front-wheel drive, no engine.
If most of your driving is under 40 miles a day with an overnight charge, this is comfortably enough car. Both trims share the same 214 bhp powertrain, the same 20-inch "Esprit Alpine" alloy wheels and the same cloth upholstery, so the difference is equipment rather than performance or looks.
The starting point, and a well-stocked one: 20-inch Esprit Alpine alloys, full LED headlights with adaptive front and rear fog lights, voice control for the navigation with built-in Google Assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a synthetic leather steering wheel. It also gets front sports seats, a rear-view camera and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Techno Esprit Alpine is currently available from £349.58 a month.
This one adds a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and a 360-degree around-view 3D camera, plus self-steering parking. Given how chunky the rear pillars are, the extra camera coverage is the genuinely useful upgrade here if you park in tight spaces regularly.
The Iconic Esprit Alpine is currently available from £365.03 a month. Against the Techno Esprit Alpine, that is currently £15.44/mo more expensive.
