View dealThe Kia EV4 is a five-seat electric SUV built for people who want long range and calm, comfortable family transport rather than outright pace. Kia quotes up to 388 miles on a charge (WLTP) from the biggest battery, and every EV4 carries the brand's seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
It sits in the middle of Kia's electric line-up, above the brand's smallest EVs and below the larger, pricier ones, at around 4.43 m long with a boot of 435 to 490 litres depending on the version. If you're moving out of a family hatchback or a compact petrol SUV, it's an easy step.
The choice here is simple: one body style, one electric powertrain with a choice of battery size, and four trims - Air, GT-Line, MOTION and GT-Line S - all automatic and front-wheel drive.

The EV4 is Kia's long-range, medium-sized electric family car. That shows in the rear legroom and in an official range that reaches up to 388 miles on the best version.
Reviewers consistently praise the same things: a soft, settled ride, low wind and motor noise, generous space in the back and a dashboard that still uses real buttons for the things you adjust while driving. The common criticism is that it's competent rather than entertaining on a twisty road, and that a few interior plastics feel plain.
Practical details back that character up. Boot space runs from 435 to 490 litres with the rear seats up, there are five seats, and Kia covers the car for seven years or 100,000 miles.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, which matters more on a lease than on a purchase: you're choosing a car for two to four years, not building one to keep. Every EV4, including the entry trim, is well equipped.
Across the range you get adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, ambient lighting and LED headlights. Safety kit is standard too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Euro NCAP awarded the EV4 four stars, with 84% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection.
On running costs, the battery is warranted for eight years or 100,000 miles and guaranteed to retain 70% of its capacity, and servicing falls due every 24 months or 20,000 miles - useful if you cover big annual mileages.
There's one powertrain, offered with two battery sizes, so the decision is about how far you need to go between charges rather than which engine to pick.
A 201 bhp motor drives the front wheels through a single-speed automatic, with a 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 273 to 388 miles depending on the version. Efficiency is 3.9 to 4.2 miles per kWh, and 0-62 mph takes 7.5 to 7.9 seconds.
Charging is the other half of the picture. At a rapid charger the best version goes from 10-80% in 31 minutes at 129 kW, while a home or workplace 11 kW supply gives a 10-100% charge in 5.3 hours on the best version. Four trims are offered, and the honest answer is that all of them cover the basics, so the choice comes down to wheels, seats and cabin tech. A Heat Pump Pack is available as an option to help efficiency in cold weather.
Air is the entry trim, with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a two-spoke artificial leather steering wheel, cloth upholstery and air conditioning. The Air is currently available from £294.24 a month.
GT-Line swaps in 19-inch GT alloy wheels and a three-spoke GT-Line artificial leather steering wheel, adds privacy glass for the rear windows and tailgate, and fits electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support. Artificial leather upholstery, wireless phone charging and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror come with it. The GT-Line is currently available from £370.55 a month. Against the Air, that is currently £76.31/mo more expensive.
MOTION goes back to 17-inch alloys and the two-spoke wheel, then piles on equipment: heated outer rear seats, a Harman Kardon eight-speaker sound system, Remote Smart Park Assist, a 360-degree camera, rear cross-traffic alert and roof rails. A sensible pick for family duty. The MOTION is currently available from £329.82 a month. Against the GT-Line, that is currently £40.73/mo cheaper. Best value
GT-Line S returns to 19-inch GT alloys and the three-spoke GT-Line wheel, adds LED headlights with the small cube design, a wide tilting and sliding front sunroof, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, electric seat memory, a powered tailgate and automatic high beam. The GT-Line S is currently available from £415.97 a month. Against the MOTION, that is currently £86.15/mo more expensive.
