Leasing a KIA Sportage
Engines and performance for the Kia Sportage
There are five engines available for the Kia Sportage, including a mild hybrid which is mated to a 2.0 litre diesel unit. A new 1.6 litre diesel engine replaced the 1.7 litre unit. All of the engines have been upgraded with better emissions and the petrol units also have a new particulate filter and will return economy of 40 mpg - the turbocharged petrol unit producing 174 hp offers a better mix of performance, however. The diesel units are better suited for longer journeys and will return around 60 mpg. The mild hybrid will return around 45 mpg and the engines are mated to either a seven-speed automatic or six-speed manual box. Some models are also available with four-wheel drive.
Equipment and handling
A revamp in 2018 saw the exterior of the Kia Sportage being heavily redesigned so that the SUV stands out from the crowd. The move obviously worked since the Sportage has gone from being the firm's bestselling car in the UK to entering the UK's top 10 bestseller list. Along with upgraded active driver aids, there's also a new entertainment system and Kia offered two new trims with a sportier flourish. Among the driver assistance systems are high beam assist, lane keep assist and speed limit information.
Reversing cameras are fitted as standard with either a 7-inch or an 8-inch touchscreen along with reversing sensors. Other models come with parking sensors and the top spec Sportage includes a 360° around-view monitor to help with manoeuvering. Standard kit also includes electronic brake force distribution, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and downhill brake control.
Most models come with satnav and the firm's 'Connected Services' so there are live traffic updates, local search and weather forecasts and speed camera locations. In a competitive segment, the Kia Sportage offers a comfortable car that is packed with equipment and it's also a practical choice for families with hard-wearing materials in the well-designed cabin and it also offers an enjoyable and rewarding drive.
The SUV offers a nice stance and plenty of grip which makes it a comfortable car to drive around town and it is a good performer on long motorway journeys. The suspension deals with poor road surfaces and the chassis delivers the agile handling that some drivers may be looking for.
