Kia EV5 Lease Deals

The Kia EV5 is Kia's five-seat electric family SUV, with an 81.4 kWh battery, up to 329 miles of WLTP range and a 566-litre boot. This page explains the powertrain, the four trims - Air, GT-Line, Storm and GT-Line S - and what to check before you order.

The Kia EV5 is a five-seat electric family SUV, 4.61 metres long, with a 566-litre boot and a WLTP range of up to 329 miles. It's the car Kia built for people who want the space of a family SUV without an engine.

It slots into Kia's electric line-up between the smaller EV3 and EV4 and the larger EV9, and reviewers almost universally describe it as the electric equivalent of Kia's best-selling petrol and hybrid family SUV. That's the point of it: familiar shape, familiar controls, no drama.

The choice is simple. One body style, one battery and motor family - 81.4 kWh, 214-261 bhp, front- or all-wheel drive - and four trims: Air, GT-Line, Storm and GT-Line S.

About the Kia EV5

The EV5 is a boxy, upright five-seat SUV built around one 81.4 kWh battery, with a 566-litre boot behind the rear seats and Kia's seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty behind the whole thing. It's a family car first and foremost.

Road testers consistently praise the space - rear legroom and headroom big enough for tall adults - the wide, square boot aperture, and a dashboard that still has physical climate switches rather than burying everything in a screen. Ride comfort on the 18-inch wheels draws particular praise.

The criticism is equally consistent: it isn't engaging to drive, and rivals go further on a charge. If you want a family SUV that's easy to live with rather than exciting, that's a fair trade.

Why lease a Kia EV5?

Every EV5 arrives with the kit families actually use: adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control and keyless entry and start. Nothing essential is hidden behind a trim upgrade.

The safety list is equally complete across the range - autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Practically: five seats, five doors, 566 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, an 11.7-metre turning circle and braked towing of 1,200-1,800 kg depending on version. Servicing falls due every 24 months or 20,000 miles, and the battery carries its own eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity.

Which EV5 powertrain is right for me?

There's one powertrain family, so the real decision is front- or all-wheel drive. Every EV5 is fully electric with an automatic gearbox, so it plugs in and never visits a petrol station.

Electric

The 81.4 kWh battery gives 214-261 bhp and a WLTP range of 305-329 miles, with 0-62 mph in 7.3-8.4 seconds. Charging runs at up to 150 kW, 10-80% in 30 minutes on the best version, or 10-100% in 7.3 hours on an 11 kW home supply.

Front-wheel drive suits most families; all-wheel drive adds traction and pace. A Heat Pump Pack is available as an option, and it's worth asking about if you do winter motorway mileage - our electric car guide explains why.

Which EV5 trim should I choose?

Four trims, all sharing the same core equipment: Air covers the essentials, GT-Line adds comfort and styling, Storm adds sound and seat kit, GT-Line S adds the parking and roof extras.

Air

Air rides on 18-inch alloys with cloth upholstery, dual LED headlights with adaptive driving beam, a 12.3-inch touchscreen navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a four-spoke artificial leather steering wheel and air conditioning. The entry version is 214 bhp, front-wheel drive. The Air is currently available from £391.45 a month.

GT-Line

GT-Line swaps to 19-inch GT alloys and artificial leather upholstery, with a three-spoke GT-Line wheel, heated outer rear seats, a smart power tailgate, wireless phone charging, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory and customisable ambient lighting. The GT-Line is currently available from £414.67 a month. Against the Air, that is currently £23.22/mo more expensive.

Storm

Storm builds on GT-Line with 19-inch alloys, a four-spoke artificial leather steering wheel, ventilated front seats and a Harman Kardon eight-speaker premium sound system. If you find the seat heating alone insufficient in summer traffic, this is the one. The Storm is currently available from £616.42 a month. Against the GT-Line, that is currently £201.74/mo more expensive.

GT-Line S

GT-Line S returns to 19-inch GT alloys and the three-spoke GT-Line wheel, then adds a tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, self-steering parking, rear cross-traffic alert and Harman Kardon sound with active sound design. The GT-Line S is currently available from £464.09 a month. Against the Storm, that is currently £152.33/mo cheaper. Best value

Between 305 and 329 miles on the WLTP test, depending on version. Official efficiency is 3.4-3.6 miles per kWh. Real-world range will be lower in cold weather, as it is with any electric car.

On a rapid charger the EV5 takes up to 150 kW, giving 10-80% in 30 minutes on the best version. At home on an 11 kW supply, 10-100% takes 7.3 hours. If you're new to this, our guide on how to charge your electric car covers the basics.

Yes. Braked towing capacity runs from 1,200 kg up to 1,800 kg depending on the version, so check the figure for the exact one you're ordering rather than assuming the headline number. Kerb weight is 2,069-2,175 kg, which also affects what your licence allows.

Kia's seven-year, 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, plus an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity. On a typical lease term the car stays under warranty throughout. Servicing is due every 24 months or 20,000 miles, and the car carries a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time - rentals move as pricing is refreshed, and the cheapest trim this week isn't always the cheapest next week. The Air is currently from £391.45 a month. Check the live EV5 deals below for today's position.

No. Front- and all-wheel drive are both available, and the entry version of each trim is the 214 bhp front-wheel-drive car. All-wheel drive takes power to 261 bhp and cuts 0-62 mph to 7.3 seconds, though range varies across the 305-329 mile span. Confirm the drivetrain on the individual deal before ordering.

Specifications from Kia's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment, range and towing capacity vary by version, so check the individual deal before you order.
