Mazda is a Japanese manufacturer that sells on design and driving feel rather than sheer volume. Reviewers regularly describe its cars as better finished and more engaging than their price suggests, and models across the range hold a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.

The brand has taken its own route on electrification. Rather than converting the whole range at once, it offers petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid alongside one fully electric model, the 6E, so you can match the powertrain to the way you actually drive.

Ownership terms are consistent too. Whichever model you pick, you get a 6-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty and servicing every 12 months or 12,500 miles, which makes budgeting over a lease term straightforward.

SUVs

The Mazda CX-5 is the mainstream family SUV: petrol, five seats, a 583-litre boot and 4.69 m of length, with braked towing up to 2,000 kg and four trims to choose from. Deals start from £305.95 a month.

Smaller and easier to live with in town, the Mazda Cx-30 is 4.40 m long with five seats and a boot of 422–430 litres depending on version. Petrol only, two trims, and braked towing up to 1,300 kg. Deals start from £282.56 a month.

Step up and the Mazda Cx-60 offers diesel or plug-in hybrid power in a 4.75 m five-seater with a 570-litre boot. It tows up to 2,500 kg braked, the most in the range, across four trims. Deals start from £442.08 a month.

The Mazda Cx-80 is the 5.00 m seven-seater, also available as a six-seater, with diesel or plug-in hybrid power, five trims and a boot of 258–566 litres depending on version. It tows up to 2,500 kg braked. Deals start from £465.37 a month.

Hatchbacks

The Mazda 2 Hybrid is the small self-charging hybrid of the family: 3.94 m long, five seats, a 286-litre boot and four trims. No plug needed, which suits short urban runs. Deals start from £247.80 a month.

Electric buyers get the Mazda 6E, a 4.92 m five-seat hatchback with a 337-litre boot, two trims and braked towing up to 1,500 kg. It's the only fully electric model in the range. Deals start from £364.70 a month.

Convertible

And then the Mazda MX-5. Two seats, petrol power, 3.92 m long and a boot of 127–130 litres depending on version. Reviewers have praised it for decades as one of the purest driving cars you can buy. Deals start from £315.97 a month.

Electric and hybrid Mazda models

Mazda gives you three ways to cut fuel use: one fully electric model, two with plug-in hybrid options, and one self-charging hybrid. All four carry the same 6-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty as the petrol and diesel cars.

The 6E is the electric one, a five-seat hatchback of 4.92 m with a 337-litre boot and towing up to 1,500 kg braked. If you can charge at home or at work, it's the simplest route to zero tailpipe emissions here.

Which Mazda should you choose?

Work backwards from what you need the car to do. Size, seats, towing weight and how you refuel will narrow eight models down to one or two very quickly.

Tightest parking? The MX-5 at 3.92 m and the 2 Hybrid at 3.94 m are the short ones, though the MX-5 seats only two. For a small family who want a raised driving position, the CX-30 at 4.40 m is the compact SUV choice.

For a standard family SUV, the CX-5 gives you five seats, a 583-litre boot and 2,000 kg of braked towing. Need more than five seats? Only the CX-80 offers six or seven.

Towing a caravan or trailer? The CX-60 tows up to 2,500 kg braked, the most of any Mazda we lease, with the CX-80 matching it. Going electric means the 6E.
