Leasing a Mazda 2
Engines and performance for the Mazda2
There's just one 1.5 litre petrol engine available for the Mazda2 producing either 75hp or 90hp and both are decent performers around town. The engines that are mated with manual transmission also come with the firm's M Hybrid technology, which uses an integrated generator to capture braking energy that is usually lost to help charge-up the electrical system and reduce engine load and boost fuel economy.
Equipment and handling
The 2020 model year saw a revamp of the Mazda2 and while the exterior design had a few minor tweaks, the carmaker improved the interior and upgraded the materials used in the cabin. They also brought in more comfortable front seats and boosted insulation so the cabin is quiet when the car is being driven plus there's a new dashboard trim too. The entry-level model offers a long list of kit, including alloy wheels, climate control, rear parking sensors and cruise control. Other models feature the more powerful engine and come with a 7-inch colour touchscreen with smartphone connectivity and extra safety kit including lane keep assist, lane departure warning and city brake support. The range topper is the GT Sport Nav which has leather seats, a reversing camera and a colour head-up display, along with a heated steering wheel and front seats. As with all Mazdas, the Mazda2 is an agile performer, particularly around town where the engines offer a good response. It's also a quiet motorway cruiser helped with the re-engineered seats that the firm says will reduce fatigue and make driving more enjoyable. The cabin is certainly a pleasant place to spend a lot of time with a well-designed dashboard and all of the controls are within easy reach. The steering is easily adjusted and there's a lot to like about what is the firm's smallest product. Essentially, for anybody looking for an excellent small family hatchback, then the Mazda2 will meet most of your needs; there's plenty of space and it is a great performer that delivers an enjoyable driving experience.
