The Mazda CX-60 is a five-seat SUV built to take Mazda upmarket, into the part of the class occupied by German rivals. It's 4.75 metres long, carries 570 litres of luggage with the rear seats up, and tows up to 2,500 kg braked.
It suits a family that wants a big, well-finished SUV without a German badge, and it particularly suits anyone who tows or covers long motorway miles. There's one body style, two powertrains and four trims, so the choice is refreshingly simple.
Pick between a 3.3-litre diesel with 251 bhp and a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid with 323 bhp, then choose from Homura, Takumi, Homura Plus and Takumi Plus. Both powertrains are automatic and all-wheel drive.

The CX-60 is Mazda's large premium SUV: five seats, five doors, and a 2.87 m wheelbase. It sits above the brand's smaller family SUVs.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin - real switches for the climate control, a rotary controller rather than a prod-the-screen menu system, and material quality that stands comparison with pricier rivals. The straight-six diesel gets warm words too, for its torque and long-distance economy.
The criticism is just as consistent: the ride is firm, and testers note it can feel choppy on poor town surfaces. Against that, Mazda backs the car with a 6-year / 100,000-mile warranty and Euro NCAP awarded it 5 stars.
Because every CX-60 arrives generously equipped, so you're not choosing a trim to unlock the basics. Head-up display, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, hands-free tailgate, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range.
Safety kit is standard too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam and front and rear parking sensors. Euro NCAP scored it 88% for adult occupant protection and 91% for child occupant protection.
On practicality, the boot holds 570 litres seats up and 1,726 litres folded, the roof will take 100 kg and braked towing runs to 2,500 kg. Servicing falls due every 12 months or 12,500 miles, which is worth checking against your contract mileage.
Two choices, and the split is straightforward: the diesel for high mileage and towing without plugging in, the plug-in hybrid for drivers who can charge at home and want lower emissions on paper and more pace in practice. Both are eight-speed automatics with all-wheel drive.
The 3.3-litre six-cylinder diesel makes 251 bhp and 550 Nm, reaches 62 mph in 7.4 seconds and returns 52.3-53.3 mpg on the WLTP test, with CO2 of 138-140 g/km. No charging, 2,500 kg braked towing, and the version most long-distance drivers will want.
The 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid pairs a four-cylinder petrol engine with a 17.8 kWh battery for 323 bhp, 500 Nm and 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds. It charges at up to 7 kW, with 20-80% in about 1.5 hours at 7.2 kW on the best version. It only makes sense if you'll plug it in regularly - our electric and hybrid leasing guides cover that decision.

All four trims share the same generous standard kit, leather upholstery and 20-inch alloy wheels, so the differences come down to wheel finish, the panoramic roof and a few cabin details.
Homura brings 20-inch Black metallic alloy wheels, LED headlamps, the Mazda hybrid navigation system with European mapping, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a black Cordovan-style vinyl dash panel with silver accents. It also has ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, powered tailgate, rear-view camera and ambient lighting. The Homura is currently available from £420.97 a month inc VAT.
Takumi is about appearance rather than extra equipment: it swaps in 20-inch Black diamond cut alloy wheels, with leather upholstery and the same standard kit. A panoramic roof pack, adding an electric panoramic sunroof with electric sunblind, is available as an option. The Takumi is currently available from £450.20 a month inc VAT. Against the Homura, that is currently £29.23/mo more expensive (inc VAT).
Homura Plus returns to 20-inch Black metallic alloy wheels and adds the electric panoramic sunroof with electric sunblind as standard, plus adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging and privacy glass. The most useful step in the range for most families. The Homura Plus is currently available from £454.58 a month inc VAT. Against the Takumi, that is currently £4.38/mo more expensive (inc VAT).
Takumi Plus takes the Homura Plus equipment, fits 20-inch Black diamond cut alloy wheels and adds a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. It's the fullest specification in the range. The Takumi Plus is currently available from £471.86 a month inc VAT. Against the Homura Plus, that is currently £17.28/mo more expensive (inc VAT).
If you're weighing up other large SUVs, the Volkswagen Touareg, INEOS Grenadier, Land Rover Defender and Kia Sorento are worth a look, and you can see the rest of the range on our Mazda leasing page.
