The Mazda 6E is a five-seat electric hatchback, styled like a low-slung saloon but with a proper hatchback tailgate behind it. At 4.92 m long it sits at the larger end of Mazda's car range, and it is the brand's electric alternative to a mid-sized executive saloon.
It suits drivers doing regular motorway and A-road miles who can charge at home or work, and who want a well-equipped car rather than a long options list. Boot space is 337 litres with the rear seats up, or 1,074 litres folded.
The choice is simple: one body, one powertrain, two trims. Takumi or Takumi Plus, both with the 78 kWh battery, 255 bhp and rear-wheel drive.

The 6E is Mazda's electric take on the mid-size saloon shape that the badge has worn for decades, only now it drives its rear wheels and carries a 78 kWh battery. Range is up to 348 miles on the WLTP test.
Reviewers consistently praise the styling and the cabin materials. They're warmer about its long-distance manners than its back-road agility, and several road testers criticise the amount of everyday control that lives in the central touchscreen.
Practical reassurance comes from a 6-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, five seats and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 93% for both adult and child occupant protection.
Because the equipment you'd normally pay extra for is already there. Every 6E gets a head-up display, 360-degree camera, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, electric seat memory, powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation and a heat pump.
Safety and assistance kit is the same across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beam.
On the practical side, there's 337 litres of boot space seats-up and 1,074 litres folded, braked towing up to 1,500 kg, and an 11.2 m turning circle. Bear in mind the spare is a tyre repair kit, not a wheel.
There's only one, so the decision is really whether an electric car fits your week: the 6E is fully electric, automatic and rear-wheel drive, with up to 348 miles of WLTP range from its 78 kWh battery.
This needs charging - there's no engine as a backup. It'll take 30-80% in 15 minutes at 195 kW on the best version, or a full charge in 11.8 hours at 7.2 kW at home. Both trims share the same battery, motor, wheels and safety kit, so you're choosing between a fixed panoramic roof and leather, or an electric roof with a sunshade and a plusher interior.
The entry trim, and hardly basic. It brings 19-inch aerodynamic diamond-cut black alloy wheels, LED headlights with signature LED lighting, navigation with an EV route planner, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, leather upholstery and a fixed panoramic glass roof that's tinted and heat reflective.
The Takumi is currently available from £364.70 a month.
Same 255 bhp rear-wheel-drive mechanicals, more indulgent cabin. The panoramic glass roof becomes an electric one, still tinted and heat reflective, with an electric sunshade, and the upholstery switches to Nappa leather with quilted artificial suede.
The Takumi Plus is currently available from £369.56 a month. Against the Takumi, that is currently £4.86/mo more expensive.
