Every model we price carries the same 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, which makes comparing one Volvo against another simpler than it is with some brands. SUVs

The C40 is the coupé-roofed electric SUV, one of four models that share a 4.44 m length. Five seats, a 413-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 1,800 kg, across 2 trims. Deals start from £566.28 a month.

The Volvo EC40 covers similar ground with 6 trims to choose from, which usually means more flexibility on specification. It seats five, carries 404 litres, measures 4.44 m, holds a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and tows up to 1,800 kg braked. Deals start from £542.99 a month.

The Volvo EX30 is the small electric Volvo, 4.23 m long and easy to place on narrow roads. Five seats, a 318-litre boot, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, braked towing to 1,600 kg and 7 trims. Deals start from £261.05 a month.

The Volvo EX40 is the conventionally shaped electric family SUV at 4.44 m, with a squarer roofline than the C40 and a 410-litre boot. Five seats, braked towing up to 1,800 kg and 7 trims. Deals start from £459.78 a month.

The Volvo EX60 is the electric SUV for drivers who need a bigger load area and a towing hook. It's 4.80 m long with a 523-litre boot, five seats, 2 trims and braked towing up to 2,400 kg - the most in the range. Deals start from £689.34 a month.

The Volvo EX90 is the electric seven-seater, 5.04 m long, with a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and braked towing up to 2,200 kg. Boot space behind the third row is 310-324 litres depending on version, across 3 trims. Deals start from £806.68 a month.

The Volvo XC40 is the one model offered as both petrol and electric, so you can pick the fuel and keep the car. Five seats, 443-452 litres of boot depending on version, 4.44 m, 5-star Euro NCAP, towing to 2,000 kg braked and 5 trims. Deals start from £316.10 a month.

The Volvo XC60 is the mid-size family SUV, offered as petrol or plug-in hybrid across 7 trims. It's 4.71 m long, seats five, carries 468-483 litres depending on version and tows up to 2,400 kg braked. Deals start from £503.74 a month.

The Volvo XC90 is the petrol and plug-in hybrid seven-seater, 4.95 m long with 5 trims and braked towing up to 2,400 kg. With all three rows up, boot space is 244-247 litres depending on version. Deals start from £591.24 a month.

Estates

The Volvo V60 is the classic Volvo answer for drivers who don't want an SUV: a 4.78 m estate with five seats, a 519-litre boot and braked towing up to 2,000 kg. Petrol or plug-in hybrid, 2 trims. Deals start from £492.82 a month.

The Volvo V90 is the larger estate at 4.95 m, offered as a plug-in hybrid only. Five seats, a 488-litre boot and braked towing up to 2,100 kg make it a long-distance car with a company car driver's tax profile. Deals start from £568.13 a month.

Hatchback

The Volvo ES90 is the large electric hatchback, 5.00 m long with a 442-litre boot and five seats. Braked towing runs to 2,000 kg, and there are 2 trims. Deals start from £788.59 a month.

Electric and hybrid Volvo models

Volvo gives a driver leaving petrol behind two routes. Seven models are electric-only - the C40, EC40, EX30, EX40, EX60, EX90 and ES90 - while four offer a plug-in hybrid: the XC60, XC90, V60 and V90. The XC40 is sold as petrol or electric.

If you can charge at home, the electric cars make the strongest case, and the spread is wide: 4.23 m in the EX30, 5.04 m in the seven-seat EX90, with the 523-litre EX60 and the 442-litre ES90 in between. If you can't charge reliably, a plug-in hybrid keeps a petrol engine in reserve.

The electric and hybrid models carry a battery warranty of 8 years / 100,000 miles alongside the standard cover. Our electric car guide is a sensible read before you decide.

Why lease a Volvo?

Leasing a Volvo means the car stays inside its 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty for the typical contract length, with the 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty behind the electric and plug-in hybrid models. You hand it back at the end instead of worrying about resale.

Your monthly rental covers the use of the car and road tax for the contract term. Servicing can usually be bundled in as a maintenance package - worth asking about on a plug-in hybrid, which has both an engine and a battery to look after.

Which Volvo should you choose?

Work backwards from what you need rather than from the badge. Seats first, then fuel, then boot and towing - the Volvo range is broad enough that one model usually answers all three once you've been honest about the first.

Smallest and easiest to park: the EX30, at 4.23 m with a 318-litre boot. Family SUV without the bulk: the XC40 or XC60, both five-seaters with boots of 443-452 and 468-483 litres depending on version.

Need seven seats? Only the XC90 and the EX90 offer them - the XC90 as petrol or plug-in hybrid, the EX90 as an electric car at 5.04 m long. Towing: the EX60 is the range's towing champion at up to 2,400 kg braked, with the XC60 and XC90 also rated to 2,400 kg.
