The Volvo V60 is a five-seat premium estate for people who want family space without a tall SUV. It's the current, third-generation car, on sale in this form since 2019, and it sits below the larger models in Volvo's range as the brand's compact load-carrier.

Reviewers consistently describe it the same way: handsome, beautifully finished, calm rather than sporty. If you want an estate that makes long motorway runs feel shorter, it's a strong shortlist entry. If you want the sharpest-handling car in the class, it isn't.

The choice is simple. One body, estate only; two powertrains, a 2-litre turbo petrol or a plug-in hybrid; and two versions to pick from, Ultra and the 296 bhp Core.

About the Volvo V60

The V60 is Volvo's compact estate: 4.78 m long, five seats, and a 519-litre boot with the rear seats up that grows to 1,431 litres folded. Every version comes with a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.

Volvo has built estates for decades, and this one plays to that heritage rather than chasing the Germans on driving thrills. Road testers reliably praise the seats, the quiet motorway manners and the interior quality, and they're equally consistent that it's tuned for comfort, not corners.

It's a sensible tow car, too, with braked towing up to 2,000 kg depending on the version.

Why lease a Volvo V60?

Because the V60 arrives well equipped whichever version you choose, and leasing lets you run one on a fixed monthly rental for a set term without worrying what a premium estate will be worth in three or four years.

Every V60 has adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Which V60 powertrain is right for me?

There are two: a 2-litre turbo petrol and a plug-in hybrid that pairs the same 2-litre turbo with an 18.8 kWh battery. Both are automatic. If you can charge at home or at work, the plug-in is the one to look at.

Petrol

A 2-litre turbo with 194–296 bhp, automatic, and available with front- or all-wheel drive. Nothing to plug in, official economy of 33.2–44.8 mpg and 0-62 mph in 6.0–7.6 seconds depending on the version. It suits high-mileage drivers with no charger.

Plug-in hybrid

The 2-litre turbo plus an 18.8 kWh battery (14.7 kWh usable), 330–449 bhp, automatic and all-wheel drive. It needs charging to make sense - the best version takes three hours from 0-100% at 11.5 kW at home. It's also the quicker car, 0-62 mph in 4.6–5.4 seconds, and tows up to 2,000 kg braked.

Which V60 trim should I choose?

Two choices. Ultra is the everyday V60, starting at 194 bhp and front-wheel drive, with the longer equipment list; Core is the 296 bhp all-wheel-drive performance version, differently specified rather than simply a step down.

Ultra

Over the Core, Ultra adds 19-inch 5 Triple Spoke diamond cut/black alloys, a power panoramic glass sunroof with sun curtain, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree surround-view camera with side proximity sensors, and Pilot Assist. It also brings heated rear seats, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, four-zone climate and adaptive suspension, with front sports seats available as an option.

Core

Then there's the performance V60. Core is the 296 bhp all-wheel-drive petrol, on 18-inch 5 Spoke alloys with summer tyres. It has leather upholstery, heated front seats, a rear park assist camera, Android Auto, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate, privacy glass and power-folding mirrors.

The Core is currently available from £729.05 a month.
