View dealThe Smart Hashtag 5 is a five-seat electric SUV. It sits above the smaller models in Smart's range, aimed squarely at families who want space, a long charge-to-charge range and a cabin that feels a class above the price the badge suggests.
Forget the two-seat city cars the name is associated with. At 4.70 metres long with a 630-litre boot, the Hashtag 5 competes with mainstream electric family SUVs, and it can tow up to 1,600 kg braked - unusual in this part of the market.
The choice is straightforward: one body, one electric powertrain family, and six trims. Pro, Pro+ and Premium cover everyday driving, while Pulse, Summit Edition and Brabus add all-wheel drive and serious pace.

The Hashtag 5 is Smart's family-sized electric SUV: five seats, five doors, a 630-litre boot that grows to 1,530 litres with the rear bench folded, and a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently praise the interior quality, the ride comfort and the sheer amount of standard kit, and they're impressed by charging speeds that reach 400 kW on the best versions. The common criticisms are efficiency - it's a heavy car with a boxy shape - and the decision to bury climate and drive-mode controls in the touchscreen.
It also carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating, with 88% for adult occupant protection and 93% for child occupant protection. Range runs from 288 miles to 366 miles WLTP depending on the version you pick.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, which matters more on a lease than on a purchase: you're choosing a fixed spec for two to four years, so what comes included is what you live with.
Every Hashtag 5 has adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. Heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a fixed panoramic glass roof, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate and dual-zone climate control are standard too.
Practicality is the other draw: 630 litres of boot space with the seats up, roof rails as standard, and braked towing up to 1,600 kg. Euro NCAP awarded it five stars, with 92% for safety assist.
There's one answer here: the Hashtag 5 is electric only, with an automatic gearbox and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive depending on the version you choose.
Battery capacity runs from 76 kWh to 100 kWh, power from 335 bhp to 637 bhp, and WLTP range from 288 miles up to 366 miles. There's no engine, so you'll charge it - at home overnight, or at 10-80% in 18 minutes at 400 kW on the fastest versions. It suits anyone with reliable charging access who wants a quiet, quick family SUV.

Most drivers will be well served by Pro, Pro+ or Premium; the rest of the range is about power and presentation rather than everyday usefulness.
The entry version, with 335 bhp and rear-wheel drive. It gets 19'' Orbit alloy wheels, CyberSparks LED headlights, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Halo panoramic sunroof, a man-made leather wrapped instrument panel and artificial leather upholstery. Deals for Pro come and go, so ask our team what's live.
Mechanically it steps up to 358 bhp with rear-wheel drive, but in equipment terms it's about the look rather than added kit - same 19'' Orbit wheels and artificial leather trim as Pro. Availability varies, so speak to us if it's the one you want.
Premium brings 20'' Sundial alloy wheels, Duo leather upholstery, two wireless phone chargers, privacy glass for the side windows and rear windshield, and Ambient lighting+. It also adds a head-up display, heated rear seats, a hands-free tailgate and a heat pump. The Premium is currently available from £473.02 a month.
Then come the performance versions, which trade some of that equipment logic for all-wheel drive and much bigger numbers.
Pulse is the first of the 580 bhp all-wheel-drive versions - rapid, but set up for comfort rather than corner-carving. It runs 20'' Helix alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate and ambient lighting. The Pulse is currently available from £461.27 a month. Against the Premium, that is currently £11.75/mo cheaper. Best value
An edition of Pulse, sharing its 580 bhp all-wheel-drive setup and 20'' Helix wheels. It adds two wireless phone chargers and an augmented reality head-up display, plus a hands-free tailgate and a fixed towbar. The Summit Edition is currently available from £480.34 a month. Against the Pulse, that is currently £19.07/mo more expensive.
The 637 bhp flagship, with all-wheel drive and rapid acceleration among the quickest in the range. It gets 21'' Monoblock Z alloy wheels, Dynamic leather upholstery, Ambient lighting+ and heated rear seats. Road testers rate it fearsomely quick in a straight line rather than a driver's car. The Brabus is currently available from £522.54 a month. Against the Summit Edition, that is currently £42.20/mo more expensive.
