Roof rails come as standard, and the strongest version tows up to 1,500 kg braked.
The choice is simple. One body, one 74.7 kWh battery, and two ways to have it: front-wheel-drive Design, or the 375 bhp all-wheel-drive Excel.

The BZ4X Touring is the practical, load-carrying member of Toyota's electric family: 4.83 m long, 1.86 m wide, five seats, five doors, and 669 litres of boot with those seats in place.
Reviewers consistently describe it as competent and easy rather than exciting - smooth power delivery, a settled ride, and a cabin that keeps physical dials for climate and volume instead of burying everything in the touchscreen. Road testers also like the square tailgate opening and the extra rear headroom the taller roof brings.
The common criticism is charging speed: 150 kW peak is fair rather than class-leading, and some rivals top up faster. Toyota covers the car with a 3-year/60,000-mile warranty and the battery with 10 years/100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity.
Because the standard kit list is unusually complete, which matters on a lease: you're not choosing between options you'll pay for monthly for three or four years. Every BZ4X Touring has the same battery and the same core equipment.
That means adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and a heat pump - the last one genuinely useful for winter range.
Safety kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam. Add privacy glass, dual-zone climate, ambient lighting and roof rails, and there's very little left to tick.
There's one powertrain and one battery, so the real decision is front- or all-wheel drive. Both are automatic, both plug in, and neither has a petrol engine to fall back on.
A 74.7 kWh battery (71.0 kWh usable) drives either the front wheels or all four, with 221-375 bhp depending on version and a WLTP range of 298-367 miles. Rapid charging peaks at 150 kW, taking 10-80% in 28 minutes on the best version. If you can charge at home or at work, it suits almost any family routine.

Two trims, and they split neatly: Design is the front-wheel-drive version, Excel is the fast all-wheel-drive one with the luxuries.
Design starts the range with 221 bhp and front-wheel drive, 18-inch 5 Double Spoke alloy wheels, cloth and leather upholstery, LED headlights, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, a three-spoke synthetic leather steering wheel that's heated, plus an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. A detachable towbar is available as an option.
The Design is currently available from £362.86 a month.
Then there's the performance version. Excel brings 375 bhp and twin-motor all-wheel drive, which changes the car's character completely, with the traction to use it on a wet slip road or a muddy field entrance.
Over Design it adds 20-inch 5 Double Spoke alloys, the Toyota skyview panoramic roof, synthetic leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, electric seat memory, advanced parking assist with self-steering, front and rear parking sensors and active lane-change assist. A detachable towbar is optional here too, and the JBL Pack adds a nine-speaker JBL premium sound system.
The Excel is currently available from £428.00 a month. Against the Design, that is currently £65.15/mo more expensive.
