Smart looking small SUV is ideal for families

The Skoda Karoq offers drivers a practical and sound family choice in the crossover segment with a vehicle that's not only comfortable and easy to drive but stylish as well.

ENGINES AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE SKODA KAROQ

There's a choice of five engines - four of them are new - and all are powerful and efficient turbodiesel and TSI units. The power outputs range from 115 bhp to 190 bhp. All of the engines feature start/stop technology as well as brake energy recovery to make them economic choices. The diesels can be coupled to a choice of the firm’s seven speed automatic gearbox or the six speed manual box. Of the engines, there's an excellent 2.0 litre turbodiesel producing 190 bhp and a sound performing 1.5 litre TSI unit which features cylinder deactivation to make it even more economical.

EQUIPMENT AND HANDLING

In the competitive compact SUV segment, the Skoda Karoq offers an interesting and stylish alternative. There's a lot to recommend it and the chassis offers state-of-the-art technology with a wide range of driver assistance systems for comfort safety.

There's also the firm's connect system for infotainment and care connect for assistance. Among the comfort systems are lane keep assist, parking assistant and travel traffic jam assist. There's also the option of blindspot detection and predictive pedestrian protection as well. The Skoda Karoq can tow a trailer of up to 2 tonnes and a new trailer assistance system will help when reversing and manoeuvring the trailer itself. The interior has been well designed and it's a pleasant place to spend time and, particularly important for family drivers, the Karoq offers a solid build with a sturdy interior design to take punishment. There’s also lots of storage space around the cabin and a decent sized boot, particularly when the rear seats are folded flat - it measures 520 litres but this expands to a useful 1,630 litres.

Out on the road, there's a high driving position so the view ahead is clear and all controls are well designed and within reach; it's comfortable to drive around town and the responsive engines make it an impressive offering. It's not a luxurious vehicle by any means but it is designed with active families in mind. Even the entry-level models have a lot to offer though the better ones are the top spec Edition and SE L versions.

Essentially, the Skoda Karoq offers practicality and comfort in what is a well-designed family car that should do well in a competitive segment since it's a stylish and well-priced offering.
