The Ford Kuga is an impressive offering from the Blue Oval and offers a great choice for an SUV. The Kuga is well-equipped and cheap to run with lots of space which makes it ideal for families.
For its size, the Ford Kuga is an economical car, particularly the 1.5 litre eco-boost petrol engine which produces 148 bhp. This, when in two wheel drive, will return around 46 mpg and will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in less than 10 seconds.
Being a Ford, there's a wide range of engines to choose from and there are two very good 2.0 litre diesels which offer economy of 60 mpg, in two wheel drive for the 148 bhp version. There's also a 178 bhp engine which will return 54 mpg but which is faster and will reach 0 to 62 mph in just over nine seconds.
There's no doubt that the restyled Ford Kuga is an impressive offering with direct and responsive steering that delivers a fun driving experience. The suspension is very good and smooths out rough surfaces and while like many similar SUVs it's not quite as good when taken off-road but this will not happen for most drivers. There’s a system on board to detect and then alter the car’s abilities when not on tarmac which will help drivers who do venture off road.
The Kuga has a lot of space on board despite its exterior looking compact and it behaves well on motorways and around town. With four trim levels to choose from the entry-level Zetec has an impressive list which includes air con, alloy wheels, DAB radio, keyless start and a heated windscreen.
Other models also come with dual zone climate control, part-leather upholstery, roll stability control and voice control. Safety kit includes electronic stability control, hill start assist, cruise control and tyre pressure monitoring.
Essentially, the Ford Kuga is well built and reliable and its equipment list makes it a sound choice for those who want a spacious car that performs well.
