The highly regarded Volkswagen Tiguan is a comfortable and classical-looking compact SUV that's established itself in a competitive field by offering a great engine range and performance. For those who like cars that are comfortable than this SUV makes for a great choice.
There's just one 2.0 litre diesel unit available with a range of power outputs and no petrol option. All of the engines are punchy, smooth and cheap to run thanks to the carmaker's BlueMotion technology.
Of the range, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 150 BlueMotion is worth a closer look. In two-wheel drive format the vehicle will return 57 mpg and travel from 0 to 62 mph in just under 10 seconds. In the four-wheel drive version of the same vehicle, it will still return 53 mpg, and this particular model is the best offering of economy, price and power.
The Volkswagen Tiguan comes in two and four-wheel-drive - known as 4Motion - versions with the latter offering better grip on a variety of terrains though most drivers will be keeping their vehicle on tarmac. Having said that, the 4Motion system is designed to provide better grip on the road rather than extensive off-roading.
The Volkswagen Tiguan offers one of the best cabins in its segment and is a comfortable place to spend long journeys in. The vehicle grips the road well, even in two-wheel drive format, and it always feels sprightly and nimble.
There's a lot of equipment fitted as standard including satnav, a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen, alloy wheels, climate control, DAB radio and parking sensors. There's also a lot of safety kit too including electronic stability control and six airbags. The interior feels solid and well-made and should withstand a lots of family use and it makes for a practical choice too.
Essentially, for those who like SUVs the range of choice can be puzzling but the Volkswagen Tiguan has been around long enough for its admirers to know it has a comfortable ride and economical engines.
