Engines and performance for the Volkswagen Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan has a sound choice of eight engines to deliver relaxed performance around town and comfortable speeds on the motorway. The Tiguan’s petrol engines include a 1.4 litre TSI which returns 47 mpg from an engine producing 125 PS. There's also a 2.0 litre diesel unit, the TDI, producing 115 PS or 190PS (for the 4Motion models) and returning 61 mpg. There’s also a 1.4 litre petrol engine which is an excellent choice and produces 150 bhp and decent levels of economy. Drivers should expect the engines to return between 40 mpg for the petrol units, and just over 60 mpg for the diesel engines. Emissions for the range run from 123g/km to 167g/km.
Equipment and handling
The model is a bestseller for VW and one reason for this, apart from the stylish good looks and great levels of performance, is a generous list of equipment such as Front Assist which uses radar to scang the road ahead and will apply the brakes in an emergency situation. There’s also lane assist and key safety systems. The 17-inch alloy wheels deliver a sound ride and the 8-inch infotainment system allows two mobile phones to be paired with it using Bluetooth. The range toppers for the second generation Tiguan are the SEL and the R-Line models. These models have class leading equipment, including a 12.3-inch high res TFT display screen for the active info display system. The models also have LED headlights, featuring dynamic curve lighting, plus a panoramic sunroof so the cabin feels more spacious than it already is and adaptive cruise control, which is a great feature for long motorway journeys. The latest Volkswagen Tiguan is a longer version than the model it replaced so there's more space and it's a sound choice for families or for those who simply enjoy the high driving position, comfortable surroundings and excellent handling around town and on motorways.
