The Porsche Macan is a five-seat SUV built around how it drives. It sits below the Cayenne in Porsche's range and is the car most people meet the brand through - a school-run, motorway and B-road machine that still feels like a Porsche from the driver's seat.

You choose between two very different cars wearing the same badge: a 261-434 bhp petrol with automatic gears and all-wheel drive, or a 100 kWh electric version with 355-630 bhp, rear- or all-wheel drive, and up to 379 miles of WLTP range in its best form.

Everyday trims run Macan entry model, T, S, 4 and 4S, with the GTS and Turbo covering the performance end. One body style, five seats, and a boot of 476-540 litres depending on version.

About the Porsche Macan

The Macan is Porsche's mid-size SUV, and the current Macan has been on sale in this form since 2024. It's a compact-ish car by SUV standards at about 4.73 m long, with five seats and a 3-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.

Reviewers are consistent about two things. First, steering and body control that few SUVs of this size get close to - road testers regularly describe it as feeling more like a sports saloon than a family 4x4. Second, that space in the back and in the boot is adequate rather than generous, with 476-540 litres behind the rear seats depending on the version you pick.

Safety is strong on paper too: five stars from Euro NCAP, with 90% for adult occupant and 90% for child occupant protection.

Why lease a Porsche Macan?

Because you get a genuinely quick, well-equipped SUV on a fixed monthly rental, with the manufacturer warranty covering the whole of a typical lease term. Every Macan comes with heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay and LED headlights.

Front and rear parking sensors, a digital instrument cluster and built-in navigation are standard on the entry model, and driver aids such as a 360-degree camera are standard on some versions and optional on others, with lane-keep assist available as an option, while adaptive cruise control is standard on electric versions. Practically, it seats five, carries 476-540 litres in the boot depending on version and tows up to 2,500 kg braked on the strongest electric versions.

Servicing falls every 24 months or 20,000 miles, and the electric versions add an 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity. Worth knowing before you set your annual mileage.

Which Macan powertrain is right for me?

Two choices, and they suit different lives: petrol if you can't reliably charge or you tow and travel unpredictably, electric if you have off-street charging and want the longer range and the bigger performance numbers.

Petrol

261-434 bhp, a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder up to a 2.9-litre six. WLTP economy of 25.2-28.2 mpg tells you it isn't a frugal car. Boot space is 488 litres with the seats up, and braked towing runs to 2,400 kg.

Electric

A 100 kWh battery (95 kWh usable), 355-630 bhp, automatic, and rear- or all-wheel drive. WLTP range reaches up to 379 miles on the best version. Which Macan trim should I choose?

Pick by powertrain first, then by how much performance and standard kit you want, because the trim names split across petrol and electric rather than forming one simple ladder.

Macan entry model

The starting point: 261 bhp, all-wheel drive, 19-inch "Macan" alloy wheels and part leather. Apple CarPlay with Siri voice recognition, towbar preparation and cruise control with a speed limiter are standard, along with three-zone climate control and roof rails. A panoramic roof, keyless entry and heated steering wheel are options.

T

The T keeps the 261 bhp engine but adds a heated steering wheel, launch control and front sports seats, with 20-inch "Macan S" wheels and full leather upholstery. Active lane-change assist joins the option list. Good if you want the driving flourishes without stepping up in engine.

The T is currently available from £752.80 a month.

S

The S moves to 375 bhp and adds a digital boost pressure gauge on the instrument cluster display, plus roof rails, adaptive suspension and sports suspension. Wheels are 20-inch "Macan S" alloys with part leather trim. Reviewers often point to the six-cylinder S as the pick of the petrol range.

The S is currently available from £845.28 a month. Against the T, that is currently £92.48/mo more expensive.

4

The first of the all-wheel-drive electric versions, at 402 bhp. Over the entry model it adds smartphone integration, leather door panels and central armrests, and adaptive cruise control, plus a 360-degree camera, keyless entry, a heat pump and autonomous emergency braking.

The 4 is currently available from £865.60 a month.

4S

The 4S is the 509 bhp version of the 4, and it's about presentation and pace rather than extra standard kit - 20-inch "Macan S" wheels, leather upholstery and the same core equipment. A head-up display, matrix LED headlights and four-zone climate control are all options.

The 4S is currently available from £937.21 a month. Against the 4, that is currently £71.62/mo more expensive.

Then there are the two performance Macans.

GTS

The GTS is the 434 bhp petrol flagship, adding launch control and front sports seats over the S, on 21-inch "Rs Spyder" alloys with part leather trim. It's the hardest-edged petrol Macan, and road testers rate it the most focused of the combustion range.

The GTS is currently available from £980.16 a month. Against the S, that is currently £134.88/mo more expensive.

Turbo

The 630 bhp electric Turbo is the fastest Macan. Over the 4S it adds a leather package, a heated steering wheel and an electrically adjustable steering column, along with matrix LED headlights, air suspension and front sports seats on 20-inch "Macan Turbo" wheels.

The Turbo is currently available from £1,473.88 a month. Against the 4S, that is currently £536.66/mo more expensive.
