The Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC is a five-seat, five-door electric SUV, and it's the fully electric version of the mid-size SUV that has long been one of the brand's best-known family cars. Roughly 4.85 metres long, it sits in the heart of the Mercedes-Benz SUV line-up rather than at the extremes of it.
It suits drivers who want a quiet, comfortable premium SUV with genuine long-distance ability: range runs up to 405 miles (WLTP) on the best version, and the boot holds 570 litres with the rear seats in place.
The choice is simple. One body style, one electric powertrain with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, and five trims: Sport, AMG Line, AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium+ and Premier Edition.

The Electric GLC is a comfort-first machine, reviewers consistently note: smooth, quiet and effortless rather than sharp-edged. Road testers also single out the cabin quality and the sheer amount of screen and software on board, with some finding the display a little overwhelming at first.
Practicality is the other half of the story. Five seats, 570 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,740 litres folded, a 2.97-metre wheelbase that frees up rear legroom, and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with 96% for adult occupant protection.
Mercedes-Benz covers it with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, plus an 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity.
Because the standard specification is strong across the whole range, so you don't have to chase an expensive trim to get a well-equipped car, and because a lease keeps you in a fast-moving area of the market without owning the battery long term.
Every version gets adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a hands-free tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting. Safety kit includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and traffic sign recognition, backed by that 5-star Euro NCAP result.
For towing, the braked limit is 2,400 kg, which is unusually useful for an electric SUV, and a fixed towbar is a factory option on every trim. Servicing is every 24 months or 18,650 miles.
There's only one: fully electric, with an automatic transmission and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Power ranges from 349 bhp to 482 bhp depending on the version you pick.
An 85 kWh or 94 kWh battery gives up to 405 miles of WLTP range, with 0-62 mph in 4.3 to 5.9 seconds depending on version. Charging peaks at up to 330 kW, and the quickest version does 10-80% in 22 minutes; on the best version, a home wallbox at 11 kW fills it in nine hours. You'll need somewhere to charge regularly - ideally at home.

Sport already covers the essentials, so the decision is mostly about wheels, screens, seat comfort and how much cabin theatre you want.
Sport rides on 20-inch Multi Spoke alloys with artificial leather upholstery, hard disc navigation, smartphone integration, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a digital instrument cluster and a rear-view camera. The entry version has 349 bhp and rear-wheel drive. The Sport is currently available from £766.60 a month.
AMG Line swaps to 20-inch AMG 5 Spoke alloys and adds the SKY CONTROL panoramic glass roof, a flat-bottomed nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel, Digital AMG Line styling, the MBUX Superscreen, front sports seats and electric seat memory. Air suspension and four-wheel steering become options. The AMG Line is currently available from £801.14 a month. Against the Sport, that is currently £34.55/mo more expensive.
Over AMG Line, this one brings 20-inch AMG 10 Spoke alloys, MBUX augmented reality for navigation, a heated steering wheel, the parking package with a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a wireless charging pad in the front. This adds 21-inch AMG Y Spoke alloys, Digital Light LED headlights with a projection function, an illuminated Mercedes-Benz pattern in the panoramic roof glass, a head-up display, and multicontour front seats with massage, ventilation and heated rear seats. Availability changes, so speak to us if this is the spec you want.
Premier Edition is largely about finish rather than extra technology: 21-inch AMG Multi Spoke alloys, leather upholstery and roof rails on top of the Premium+ kit. The Premier Edition is currently available from £925.56 a month.
