The Mercedes GLC is a quality SUV with an impressive interior and it's also comfortable and quiet to drive. The GLC is also cheap to run and a stylish creation.
The Mercedes GLC has one 2.1 litre diesel engine with two power outputs of 168 bhp or 201 bhp and both deliver a smooth performance; both models deliver economy of 57 mpg and emissions of 129g/km. The lower powered engine is a nippy performer and will propel the car to 62 mph in just over eight seconds. The 220d with the 201 bhp engine will deliver the same sprint half a second quicker. There's also the impressive AMG GLC 43 which is aimed at delivering high levels of performance and will reach 62 mph in less than five seconds though its economy is much lower. The GLC comes with a nine speed automatic transmission as standard and this delivers smooth and quick shifting to deliver the performance levels.
The Mercedes GLC is undoubtedly a well-designed and well-made SUV offering an attractive alternative to the mid-size premium SUV segment with an interior that is hard to beat. It's also a nice car to drive and with standard four-wheel-drive the car delivers good grip, particularly on slippery surfaces and is enjoyable to drive on winding country roads. The GLC utilises torque split to deliver most of its power to the rear wheels to help deliver a composed drive. It helps also that the optional air suspension delivers even more comfort with a cosseted ride.
This feeling of luxury also extends to the cabin which is exquisite with lots of space for everyone on board. There's even a good sized boot of 550litres and, as potential drivers would expect, there's a good list of standard equipment including leather upholstery, privacy glass, keyless go, reversing camera and a powered boot lid. Other models come with larger alloy wheels, parking assist, heated front seats and satnav.
Essentially, there's a lot to recommend the Mercedes GLC which is a great car for cruising at speed over long distances and it's also an agile and rewarding car to drive around town with excellent levels of refinement in a hard-to-beat package for the segment.
