View dealThe INEOS Grenadier is a five-seat 4x4 built around working ability rather than showroom polish, and it is the SUV in INEOS's small car range. One body style, two engines, five trims - that's the whole decision.
It suits people who tow, farm, shoot, run estates or simply want a vehicle that treats a rutted track as normal. Braked towing goes up to 3,500kg, the boot holds between 1,152 and 1,255 litres with the rear seats in place, and INEOS covers it with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
Choose between the 3-litre turbo petrol with 282bhp and the 3-litre diesel with 246bhp. Both are automatic, both drive all four wheels, and the trims run from the Grenadier entry model through the Helmsman, Trialmaster and Fieldmaster Editions to Trialmaster X.

The Grenadier is a ladder-frame, beam-axle off-roader designed to fill the gap left when the original utility 4x4s went upmarket. It is 4.90m long, 2.04m tall and weighs between 2,665kg and 2,816kg depending on version.
Reviewers consistently praise its off-road ability, its build solidity and the strength of its six-cylinder engines. They are equally consistent about the trade-offs: slow, low-geared steering, a 13.5m turning circle that makes multi-storey car parks a chore, and fuel economy that no amount of goodwill improves.
What you get in return is a vehicle with genuine character and a hose-friendly attitude to mess. Five seats, a full-size spare wheel, 150kg of roof load and a 2,035-litre load bay with the rear seats folded.
Leasing fixes your monthly cost on a vehicle that is expensive to run and hard to value second-hand, and it keeps you inside the five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the whole contract. Servicing falls every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
Every Grenadier gets built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, climate control, roof rails, sports seats and DAB digital radio. Autonomous emergency braking is standard across the range.
Two practical points customers raise with our team before ordering. First, the 90-litre tank matters given WLTP economy of 17.3-19.6mpg on the petrol - plan around it. Second, if you intend to tow, decide on the towbar before the order goes in, because it isn't something you can add later on a leased vehicle without agreement.
Both engines are 3.0-litre six-cylinders with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, and both do 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds with a 99mph top speed. Neither needs charging. The split is torque and fuel cost.
The petrol has 282bhp and 450Nm, and it's the smoother, more willing of the two. WLTP economy is 17.3-19.6mpg with CO2 of 328g/km, so it makes most sense for lower-mileage drivers who value refinement over running costs.
The diesel makes 246bhp but 550Nm of torque, which is the figure that counts when there's a loaded trailer behind you. WLTP economy of 23.4-25.2mpg and CO2 of 290-310g/km make it the sensible choice for anyone covering real miles. If you're weighing the two, our petrol or diesel guide is worth five minutes.

The five trims are less a ladder than a set of preferences: steel wheels and cloth against alloys and leather, with a towbar deciding a good part of it.
The starting point rides on 17-inch steel wheels with cloth upholstery, and includes LED headlights, Pathfinder off-road navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera and rear park assist. Heated front seats, front parking sensors, privacy glass, ambient lighting and a fixed towbar are all available as options.
Helmsman swaps the steel wheels for 17-inch diamond-cut alloys and the cloth for leather, then adds heated front seats, heat-reflective privacy glass, front parking sensors and ambient lighting. A fixed towbar remains an option.
The Helmsman Edition is currently available from £1,029.83 a month.
Trialmaster goes the other way: back to 17-inch steel wheels and cloth upholstery, with a fixed towbar fitted as standard. Heated front seats and privacy glass are options. It's the one to pick if hauling matters more than trim.
The Trialmaster Edition is currently available from £1,059.04 a month. Against the Helmsman Edition, that is currently £29.21/mo more expensive.
Fieldmaster keeps the fixed towbar and brings back comfort: leather upholstery, heated front seats, a premium sound system and 17-inch alloy wheels. Privacy glass is optional. For most people who tow and still use the vehicle as a family car, this is the balanced spec.
The Fieldmaster Edition is currently available from £1,048.92 a month. Against the Trialmaster Edition, that is currently £10.12/mo cheaper. Best value
Trialmaster X tops the range with 17-inch alloy wheels, a Nappa leather driver's pack, heat-reflective privacy glass and a fixed towball with electrics, on leather upholstery. Privacy glass is also listed as a factory option. Deals for it come and go, so ask our team what's available.
If the Grenadier's compromises don't suit, the Land Rover Defender covers similar ground with more polish, while the Mazda CX-80 and Mazda CX-60 are road-biased family SUVs. The Maserati Grecale is the style-led alternative. More options sit on our INEOS leasing page.
