The Lexus NX is a five-seat premium SUV built around comfort and hybrid running costs rather than outright sportiness. At 4.66 metres long with a 520-litre boot, it's the sensible middle of the Lexus SUV line-up: bigger than the brand's small SUVs, smaller and easier to place than the RX.

It suits families, company car drivers and anyone leaving a diesel SUV who wants quiet progress, a genuinely plush cabin and a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Road testers consistently praise the build quality, ride comfort and Lexus's reliability record, and just as consistently note that it gets vocal if you accelerate hard.

The choice is simple: one body style, two powertrains - Hybrid (self-charging) or Plug-in hybrid - and five trims, from Urban up through Premium Plus, F-Sport, Takumi and F-Sport Takumi. Every version is automatic and all-wheel drive.

About the Lexus NX

The current NX is the second-generation car, on sale in this form since 2021, and it's the model that turned Lexus's electrified reputation into a mainstream family SUV. Five seats, five doors, 520 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,411 litres folded.

Reviewers return to the same points: a cabin that feels properly expensive, a settled ride, and strong long-term reliability. The flip side is a gearbox that lets the engine drone under hard acceleration, which is the trade-off for the economy.

Lexus covers it with a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty, a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee, and services fall every 12 months or 10,000 miles. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 91% for adult occupant protection and 91% for safety assist.

Why lease a Lexus NX?

Leasing suits the NX because you get a fixed monthly cost on a premium SUV without carrying its future value, and every version arrives generously equipped. Adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, a powered tailgate, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster and dual-zone climate control are standard right across the range.

So is the safety kit customers actually ask about: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are fitted throughout.

Practically, it tows up to 1,500 kg braked depending on version, has roof rails as standard and a turning circle of 11.6 m. Worth knowing before you order: insurance groups run from 35 to 40 on the Hybrid and 41 to 43 on the Plug-in hybrid, so get a quote first.

Which NX powertrain is right for me?

Both NX powertrains pair a 2.5-litre petrol engine with electric drive, an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. The difference is whether you plug it in.

Hybrid (self-charging)

No cable, no charger, no change to your routine. The 1.1 kWh battery tops itself up as you drive, giving 194 bhp, 0-62 mph in 8.1 seconds and WLTP economy of 56.5 mpg, with CO2 from 134 g/km. Pick this if home charging isn't realistic.

Plug-in hybrid

The 18.1 kWh battery means you can cover everyday journeys on electricity if you plug in, then carry on as a hybrid when it's empty. It's also the quicker car, with 288 bhp and 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds. A 6.6 kW home charge takes 2.8 hours on the best version.

Which NX trim should I choose?

All five trims share the same practicality and safety kit, so the decision is about wheels, lighting, cabin comfort and how sporting you want it to look.

Urban

The entry NX is far from sparse: 18-inch 15-spoke machined-finish alloy wheels, single-bulb LED headlights with auto high beam, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, heated front seats and leather upholstery. It's the 194 bhp Hybrid with all-wheel drive. The Urban is currently available from £487.30 a month.

Premium Plus

Premium Plus moves to 20-inch five-twin-spoke alloys, four-eye LED headlights with adaptive high beam, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, a heated steering wheel and a leather gearshift. It also adds a head-up display, ventilated front seats, electric seat memory, hands-free tailgate, wireless charging, blind-spot monitoring and privacy glass. The Premium Plus is currently available from £562.28 a month. Against the Urban, that is currently £74.99/mo more expensive.

F-Sport

F-Sport is the sharper-looking one, on 20-inch F SPORT alloys, with a perforated leather steering wheel and paddle shift, two-way electric lumbar adjustment for the driver, sports suspension, front sports seats and heated rear seats. The Pan roof Pack is available as an option. The F-Sport is currently available from £569.48 a month. Against the Premium Plus, that is currently £7.20/mo more expensive.

Takumi

Takumi is the comfort-led flagship of the Hybrid range: 20-inch 20-spoke machined-finish takumi alloys, an electric tilt and slide panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting in 64 colours, four-way electric lumbar adjustment for the driver, active lane-change assist and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The Takumi is currently available from £579.29 a month. Against the F-Sport, that is currently £9.80/mo more expensive.

F-Sport Takumi

This is the Plug-in hybrid trim, with 288 bhp and all-wheel drive. Over the Urban it brings 20-inch F SPORT alloys, four-eye adaptive LED headlights, the 360-degree camera, a perforated leather steering wheel with paddle shift, heated steering wheel, opening panoramic roof, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. From £572.68 a month.

Lexus NX FAQs

Yes. It's a five-seat, five-door SUV with a 520-litre boot rising to 1,411 litres with the rear seats folded, and it scored five stars at Euro NCAP with 87% for child occupant protection. Rear space is good rather than cavernous.

No. The Hybrid (self-charging) uses a small 1.1 kWh battery that recharges as you drive and brake, so you just add petrol. Only the Plug-in hybrid, with its 18.1 kWh battery, is designed to be charged from the mains. Our electric and hybrid guides explain the difference.

The best version charges from 0-100% in 2.8 hours at 6.6 kW on a home or workplace AC charger, and the fastest charging rate is 7 kW. It's an overnight car rather than a rapid-charging one, so a home charge point makes the most sense.

Braked towing runs from 1,000 kg up to 1,500 kg depending on version, with 500-750 kg unbraked. The Plug-in hybrid is rated at 1,000 kg braked. If towing matters, check the figure on the exact version before you order, and tell us so we can confirm it.

Three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The hybrid battery carries the same three-year, 60,000-mile cover and is guaranteed to retain 70% of its capacity. Paintwork is guaranteed for three years and there's a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee. Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000 miles.

Often, yes, on a like-for-like trim at the moment. A monthly rental reflects the gap between the car's cost and its forecast value at the end of the term, plus interest, so a version that holds its value better can cost less per month despite a higher list price. That can change whenever pricing is refreshed.

It depends entirely on what's available at the time, and the order changes as offers are refreshed. The entry Urban trim is currently from £487.30 a month. Compare the live Lexus NX deals below, and our guide to choosing your car covers term and mileage.

Specifications from Lexus's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment, towing and charging figures vary by version, so check the individual deal before you order.
