The JAECOO 8 is JAECOO's largest SUV, sold in the UK as a single plug-in hybrid with 422 bhp, all-wheel drive and six or seven seats. Two trims are offered, Luxury and Executive, both heavily equipped as standard.
The JAECOO 8 is the biggest SUV the brand sells: a 4.82m, six or seven seat family car built around one plug-in hybrid powertrain, with 422 bhp and all-wheel drive on every version. It sits above the smaller JAECOO SUVs as the flagship.
It suits drivers who want a lot of equipment, a quiet cabin and genuine electric-only running for the commute, without paying premium-badge money. It tows up to 1,600 kg braked and carries a 7-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
The choice is simple. One body style, one powertrain, and two trims: Luxury and Executive.

The 8 is JAECOO's flagship, and the first model from the brand with three rows of seats. Reviewers consistently praise the cabin quality, the length of the standard equipment list and how smoothly the hybrid system runs, often noting it feels like a much more expensive car inside.
The criticism is just as consistent: the third row is tight and awkward to climb into, so road testers tend to describe it as a big four or five seater with occasional extra seats rather than a full seven-seater. Boot space reflects that, at 200 litres with every seat in use and 738 litres with the rear row folded.
Safety is covered by a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, with 81% for adult occupant protection and 80% for child occupants.
Because almost everything is standard. Every 8, whichever trim you pick, gets an opening panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a head-up display, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a powered tailgate.
The driver assistance list is equally full: adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist and autonomous emergency braking. A fixed towbar and roof rails are fitted as standard too, which is unusual.
On a lease, that matters more than it does on a purchase: you're not paying for options you'd never recover the cost of, and there's very little to specify beyond paint.
There's only one, so this part of the decision is made for you. Every JAECOO 8 uses the same plug-in hybrid system, driving all four wheels through an automatic gearbox.
A 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine works with a 34.5 kWh battery for 422 bhp, 580 Nm and 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds. It's automatic and all-wheel drive. Charging isn't compulsory, but you'll want to plug in: the battery is what makes it cheap to run day to day. Rapid charging takes 30-80% in 20 minutes at 70 kW on the best version, or 5.5 hours from empty at 6.6 kW at home. If you can't charge, a self-charging hybrid will suit you better. Both trims share the same powertrain, wheels and safety kit, so the decision comes down to the second row and how plush you want the cabin.
The Luxury covers the essentials properly: 20-inch alloy wheels, artificial leather upholstery, LED low and high beam headlights, integrated satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera and a 540-degree panoramic camera with transparent chassis view.
The Luxury is currently available from £460.87 a month.
The Executive keeps the 20-inch alloys and 422 bhp but upgrades to leather upholstery, adds a heated steering wheel, and gives the second-row seats a massage function and individual armrests. It's the one to choose if adults regularly sit behind you.
The Executive is currently available from £475.01 a month. Against the Luxury, that is currently £14.14/mo more expensive.
