The JAECOO 7 is a five-seat family SUV sold in one body style, with a 1.6-litre petrol, a self-charging hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, and four trims from Pure to Black Luxury. This page explains what the 7 is good at, how the powertrains differ and what each trim adds before you pick a deal.
The JAECOO 7 is a five-seat family SUV, 4.50 metres long, with a boot of 500 to 580 litres depending on the version and a 7-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty behind it. It's the car that introduced most UK drivers to the JAECOO badge, and it sells on space, equipment and squared-off Range Rover-ish looks rather than on driving thrills.
It suits families and company drivers who want a big-looking SUV with a lot of standard kit, and who care more about how a car feels to sit in than how it feels through a corner. Reviewers consistently praise the cabin design and the equipment for the money, and are consistently less kind about ride quality on poor surfaces.
The choice is simple enough: one SUV body, three powertrains - petrol, self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid - and four trims, Pure, Deluxe, Luxury and Black Luxury.

The 7 is JAECOO's mid-size family SUV and the model the brand launched with in the UK. In this current form it has been on sale since 2024, in one five-door, five-seat body.
Road testers tend to agree on the shape of it: the interior looks and feels a class above the price, the standard equipment list is long, and the 7-year / 100,000-mile warranty removes a lot of the risk of buying into a young brand. The criticism is consistent too - the ride can thump over broken tarmac and the steering tells you little.
Practically, it stacks up. Boot space runs from 500 to 580 litres with the rear seats up depending on version, 1,265 litres with them folded, and every version can tow up to 1,500 kg braked.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete, which matters on a lease: you're not choosing between costly options, you're mostly choosing a powertrain and a trim. Every 7 has adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster and dual-zone climate control.
Safety kit is standard across the range rather than scattered through the trims - autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam and a rear-view camera. Euro NCAP awarded the 7 five stars, with 81% for adult occupant protection and 80% each for child occupant, vulnerable road users and safety assist.
Servicing is every 12 months or 10,000 miles, and the spare is a tyre repair kit rather than a wheel - worth knowing before you order. Our team is happy to talk through mileage and term on a choosing your car lease basis before you commit.
All three are automatic. The petrol is the simplest and the only one offered with all-wheel drive; the self-charging hybrid never needs a plug; the plug-in hybrid rewards you only if you actually charge it.
A 1.6-litre turbo with 145 bhp and 275 Nm, a 7-speed automatic, and front- or all-wheel drive. It's the slowest of the three at 10.3 to 11.8 seconds to 62 mph, and WLTP economy of 35.3 to 37.7 mpg means higher fuel bills - but it's the one to pick if you want four driven wheels.
A 1.5-litre turbo with a small 1.83 kWh battery, 221 bhp and front-wheel drive. No plug, no charging routine: it tops up its own battery. It's the quickest here at 8.3 seconds to 62 mph, with 51.4 mpg and 125 g/km CO2, which makes it the sensible pick if you can't charge at home.
A 1.5-litre turbo with an 18.4 kWh battery and 201 bhp, front-wheel drive, 8.5 seconds to 62 mph. It charges from 25 to 100% in 2.7 hours at 6.6 kW on the best version, and unusually for a plug-in hybrid it takes DC charging, 30-80% in 20 minutes at 40 kW. Best for company drivers who'll plug it in nightly - see our electric and hybrid leasing guides.

Four trims, and they're tied to powertrains rather than forming a straight line: Pure is the hybrid entry point, Deluxe and Luxury cover the petrol, and Black Luxury is plug-in hybrid only.
The entry trim, with the 221 bhp hybrid and front-wheel drive. It brings 19-inch alloy wheels, auto full beam LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrated satellite navigation and a synthetic leather steering wheel, on cloth upholstery, plus air conditioning.
The Pure is currently available from £301.37 a month.
The entry petrol trim, 145 bhp and front-wheel drive, on artificial leather. Over the Pure it adds a 540-degree panoramic camera with transparent chassis view, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a powered tailgate, an opening panoramic roof, wireless phone charging and ambient lighting.
The Deluxe is currently available from £262.03 a month.
Petrol again, this time with all-wheel drive as the entry version. Over the Deluxe it adds a heated steering wheel, cooled ventilated front seats, the 14.8-inch portrait central display and 4-way driver lumbar support, along with a head-up display, heated rear seats, electric seat memory and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
The Luxury is currently available from £347.90 a month. Against the Deluxe, that is currently £85.87/mo more expensive.
Plug-in hybrid only, 201 bhp, front-wheel drive, with darkened detailing giving it a different look rather than a wholly different kit list. Over the Pure it adds the 540-degree panoramic camera, synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and cooled ventilated front seats, plus a head-up display, panoramic roof, wireless charging and a powered tailgate.
The Black Luxury is currently available from £355.62 a month.
Worth a look alongside the 7: the Nissan Qashqai, the Leapmotor C10, the CUPRA Formentor and the KGM Actyon. The rest of the JAECOO range is here too.
