BMW 4 Series Lease Deals

The BMW 4 Series is the sportier, more style-led relation of the 3 Series: a compact executive car built around rear- or all-wheel drive, petrol power from 181 to 387 bhp and an eight-speed automatic gearbox in every version.

It suits drivers who want something better looking than a saloon without giving up daily usability. Depending on the body you choose you get 4 or 5 seats, a boot between 385 and 470 litres, and a car about 4.77 m long.

About the BMW 4 Series

The 4 Series is BMW's coupe-bodied take on the 3 Series, and this is the second generation, on sale in this form since 2021. It sits above the 2 Series and alongside the 3 Series in the line-up.

Reviewers consistently praise the eight-speed automatic and the six-cylinder engine's smoothness, and generally rate the chassis as composed and grown-up rather than hyperactive; the steering divides opinion, and the big front grille still does too. Practicality is better than the shape suggests - the Hatchback carries 470 litres with its rear seats up, and every version comes with a 3-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.

4 Series body styles

Three shapes, one car underneath. The Hatchback is the family-friendly five-seater, the Coupe is the two-door with the biggest boot of the two-door pair, and the Convertible trades some boot space for open-air driving. All three are 4.77 m to 4.78 m long.

Hatchback

The five-door, five-seat version, and the practical one. The 4 Series Hatchback holds 470 litres with the rear seats up and 1,290 litres folded, on a slightly longer 2.86 m wheelbase.

Coupe

Two doors, four seats and a 440-litre boot. The 4 Series Coupe is the lowest of the three at 1.38-1.39 m tall.

Convertible

Same four seats, same length, less luggage: the 4 Series Convertible carries 385 litres with the seats up. It's also the heaviest body, at 1,690-1,925 kg depending on version.

Why lease a BMW 4 Series?

Because the standard kit list is strong across the range and you're covered by the manufacturer warranty for the whole of a typical lease. Every 4 Series, whichever trim, gets heated front seats, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wi-fi hotspot.

Driver assistance is well covered as standard too: autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, self-steering parking, LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights. Sports suspension, front sports seats and paddle shifters come on every version.

Servicing falls every 24 months or 18,000 miles, and there's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare. Braked towing runs from 1,600 kg up to 1,800 kg depending on the version - enough for a small caravan or a trailer.

Which 4 Series powertrain is right for me?

There's one powertrain family here: petrol. Nothing plugs in, nothing needs charging, and every version is automatic.

Petrol

Power runs from 181 bhp to 387 bhp, torque from 300 to 540 Nm, with 2.0 to 3.0-litre engines of four or six cylinders and an eight-speed gearbox throughout. Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is available. WLTP economy is 38.2-44.8 mpg and CO2 144-168 g/km, with 0-62 mph taking 4.4-8.2 seconds.

Which 4 Series trim should I choose?

Every 4 Series is an M Sport of some description, so the decision is really about wheels, lighting and a handful of comfort features - then whether you want the six-cylinder performance versions.

M Sport

The starting point, from 181 bhp and rear-wheel drive, on 18-inch Double Spoke Style 848m alloys with cloth upholstery. It brings the three-spoke flat-bottom M Sport leather multifunction steering wheel, the Park Assist Pack and the Ambient Lighting Pack, plus wireless charging and dual-zone climate. Adaptive cruise control and a panoramic roof are optional.

M sport

Mechanically the same entry point - 181 bhp, rear-wheel drive - but on 18-inch Aerodynamic Style 858 M alloys, and it adds a powered tailgate and three-zone climate control. Keyless entry and start, a heated steering wheel and lane-keep assist are on the options list.

M Sport Pro

Adds Adaptive LED Headlights over M Sport, along with automatic high beam and privacy glass, and steps up to 19-inch Double Spoke Style 995m alloys. Hands-free tailgate, electric seat memory and rear cross-traffic alert can be specified as options.

M sport Pro

The same idea applied to M sport: Adaptive LED Headlights, automatic high beam and privacy glass, here on 19-inch Y Spoke Style 859m alloys. Options run to an opening panoramic roof, heated steering wheel and electrically adjustable driver's seat.

Then come the six-cylinder performance versions.

M440i

387 bhp, all-wheel drive, with 0-62 mph taking as little as 4.4 seconds across the petrol range. Over M Sport Pro it adds electric seat memory and an electrically adjustable driver's seat, on 18-inch Double Spoke Style 848m alloys. The M440i is currently available from £824.87 a month.

Black Edition

An edition of M sport Pro with the same 387 bhp all-wheel-drive setup, distinguished mainly by its darker look and 19-inch M Double Spoke 861m alloys - it's about appearance more than extra equipment, though it does gain electric seat memory and an electrically adjustable driver's seat. Active lane-change assist is optional. The Black Edition is currently available from £893.98 a month.
