The KGM Torres is a five-seat family SUV sold as a self-charging hybrid or as a 204bhp electric model with up to 287 miles of WLTP range. This page explains the K40 and K30 trims, the two powertrains and what to check before you order.
The KGM Torres is a five-seat family SUV, around 4.71 metres long, with a boot of between 703 and 839 litres depending on the version you choose. It is the car that introduced the KGM name to UK buyers, and it leans hard on space rather than polish.
It suits households who want one big, well-equipped car for the school run, the dog, the holiday luggage and the occasional trailer - braked towing goes up to 1,500kg on the electric version.
The choice is simple: one body style, two powertrains (Hybrid or Electric), and two trims, K40 and K30. Everything else is standard.

The Torres is KGM's mid-size family SUV, and the model that marked the brand's move on from its SsangYong past. It's a five-seater with seven-seater dimensions, which is where its appeal starts and largely ends.
Reviewers consistently praise the rear legroom and the boot, which runs from 703 litres in the Hybrid up to 839 litres in the Electric, and 1,662 litres with the rear seats folded. They're equally consistent about the weak points: the touchscreen is slow, and the ride is unsettled on poor surfaces.
Ownership cover is a real draw. The manufacturer warranty runs from five to seven years depending on version, and the drive battery is covered for 10 years or 999,999 miles, guaranteed to retain 70% of its capacity.
Because the Torres is generously equipped as standard, there's very little to specify and very little to argue about at order stage. Every Torres gets heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and built-in navigation.
Driver assistance is standard across the range too: adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.
Practically, you also get roof rails, privacy glass, power-folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers and a digital instrument cluster with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The turning circle is 10.8 metres and the roof load limit is 75kg, so a roof box is realistic.
One ordering note from our team: there's no spare wheel, just a tyre repair kit. Worth knowing if you cover rural miles.
There are two: a self-charging Hybrid that never needs plugging in, and a 204bhp Electric model with up to 287 miles of WLTP range. Both are automatic and front-wheel drive, so the decision really comes down to how and where you charge.
A 1.5-litre turbo petrol with a small 1.83kWh battery, making 175bhp and 300Nm. It charges itself, so there's no cable and no planning. WLTP economy is 46.1mpg with CO2 of 139g/km, 0-62mph takes 9.0 seconds, and braked towing is 1,300kg.
A 73.4kWh battery, 204bhp and up to 287 miles of WLTP range, with efficiency quoted at 3.3 miles per kWh. A 10-80% rapid charge takes 37 minutes on the best version, and a full AC charge takes nine hours at 11kW. It suits home chargers and tows up to 1,500kg braked. Our electric car guide covers the charging basics.

Two trims, and they're split by powertrain rather than stacked as a hierarchy: K40 is the 175bhp hybrid, K30 the 204bhp electric. Both are comprehensively equipped, so the real differences are wheels, upholstery and a handful of comfort items.
K40 brings 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels in a five-spoke design, leather upholstery, a heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, TomTom navigation software and Apple CarPlay with Android Auto. It also adds an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting, an LED third brake light and an electric parking brake.
The K40 is currently available from £249.08 a month.
K30 is the electric Torres, so it's a different car rather than a step down: 204bhp, 18-inch seven-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels and cloth with TPU leather upholstery instead of full leather. Road testers reckon the smaller wheels help the ride, and the electric version is noticeably more settled.
The K30 is currently available from £343.26 a month.
If the Torres is on your shortlist, it's worth also looking at the BYD Atto 3 Evo, the MG MGS6, the Toyota C-HR+ and the Smart Hashtag 3. The rest of the range sits on our KGM leasing page.
