Leasing a Peugeot 308
Engines and performance for the Peugeot 308
For those who want a cheap to run family hatchback, then the Peugeot 308 offers an excellent 1.5 litre diesel unit producing 130hp. It's a great performer and there's also the choice of two 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engines that deliver better levels of sprightly performance. Opt for the GT and there's a 2.0 litre diesel unit producing 177hp with better levels of performance at lower revs. The petrol engines return around 46 mpg with the diesel units offering better economy of up to 80mpg - though you need to drive carefully to reach this figure.
Equipment and handling
While it's up against tough competition, there's a lot to like about the Peugeot 308 hatchback. It does enough to set itself apart from its better-known rivals with nice on road handling, style and plenty of equipment. It's also well priced and cheap to run. The 308 is a hatchback designed for family use with the impressive cabin using soft touch materials and hard wearing plastics where needed. To underpin the offering, Peugeot's build quality has improved in recent years to deliver reliability and drivers also get to enjoy a decent level of safety kit including active cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. The cabin is spacious enough for four adults with plenty of legroom and it also has one of the biggest boots in the segment at 470 litres. Standard equipment includes automatic lights and wipers, climate control air conditioning, alloy wheels and rear parking sensors. Drivers also get to enjoy a touchscreen infotainment system that features satnav with smartphone connectivity and DAB radio. Other models come with a panoramic roof, front parking sensors and part-leather seats. The GT offering delivers more comfortable seats, as well as keyless entry and go. The Peugeot 308's suspension deals with rough roads effectively and there's enough grip to deliver a confident and enjoyable drive on country roads and it is a good performer on long motorway journeys too. If you like better levels of sporty performance, then the GT versions of the 308 deliver sharp responses thanks to its lowered suspension, but the ride is firmer. Essentially, the Peugeot 308 offers a practical family hatchback with lots of equipment and decent levels of performance to meet most driver's needs and in a competitive segment, it is certainly worth a closer look.
