Nissan is the brand that gave Britain the family crossover, and the current Nissan line-up still leans that way: sensible, practical cars with a high driving position and equipment that is easy to use on the move. Six models are priced with us today - four SUVs and two hatchbacks.

The powertrain choice is unusually clear-cut. Three models are electric, three offer a self-charging hybrid that never needs plugging in, and two are available with petrol. Every model we price carries a three-year manufacturer warranty, with the mileage limit varying by model.

Choosing is mostly a question of size and how you want to fuel it. The Ariya is the brand's electric SUV, a five-seater with a 466-litre boot and a 4.60 m body, and reviewers consistently single out its cabin quality and the flat floor that makes it feel roomier than the numbers suggest.

About Nissan

Nissan is a Japanese manufacturer with deep British roots, best known here for crossovers and for being an early mover in mass-market electric cars. The range we lease runs from the 3.97 m Micra to the 4.68 m X-trail.

Reviewers tend to describe Nissans as comfortable and straightforward rather than thrilling - praise for visibility, physical controls and family-friendly cabins, with criticism reserved for steering feel and outright driving fun. That trade-off suits most buyers perfectly well.

Half the models we price are electric, which says something about where the brand has put its effort. Every one of the six comes with a three-year manufacturer warranty, and four of the six carry a Euro NCAP rating of four or five stars.

The Nissan range we lease

SUV

The Nissan Ariya is the electric SUV in the range, and it's the one to look at if you want a quiet, comfortable family car without petrol. Five seats, a 466-litre boot and a 4.60 m body across two trims. Deals start from £533.22 a month.

The Nissan Juke is the small SUV: 4.21 m long, five seats, and a boot of 350 to 422 litres depending on version. Petrol or self-charging hybrid, five stars from Euro NCAP, braked towing up to 1,250 kg, five trims. Deals start from £229.54 a month.

The Nissan Qashqai is the mid-size family crossover that made the shape popular, at 4.43 m with a 455 to 504-litre boot. Petrol or self-charging hybrid, five seats, four stars from Euro NCAP, and braked towing up to 1,830 kg - the most of any Nissan we price. Deals start from £285.32 a month.

The Nissan X-trail is the big one, at 4.68 m, and the only model here offered with five or seven seats. Self-charging hybrid only, boot 485 to 575 litres, five-star Euro NCAP, braked towing up to 1,800 kg, four trims. Deals start from £337.97 a month.

Hatchback

The Nissan Leaf is the electric hatchback for drivers who want EV running costs without SUV bulk: 4.35 m, five seats, a 437-litre boot and braked towing up to 975 kg. Four trims, three-year / 60,000-mile warranty. Deals start from £312.00 a month.

The Nissan Micra is the small electric hatchback, 3.97 m long with five seats and a 285-litre boot. It carries a three-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty, a four-star Euro NCAP rating and three trims. Deals start from £212.12 a month.

Electric and hybrid Nissan models

Three Nissan models we price are fully electric - the Ariya, the Leaf and the Micra - and three offer a self-charging hybrid, which uses petrol but never needs plugging in. That covers most of the ground between a conventional car and a full EV.

If you can charge at home or at work, the electric three give you a size for most lives: the Micra at 3.97 m with a 285-litre boot, the Leaf at 4.35 m with 437 litres, and the Ariya SUV at 4.60 m with 466 litres.

If you can't charge reliably, the self-charging hybrids in the Juke, Qashqai and X-trail are the sensible middle ground - no cable, no charging routine, and the X-trail still offers seven seats. Our electric car guide covers the jargon if you're weighing the switch.

Why lease a Nissan?

Leasing a Nissan means you hold the car for the warranty years and hand it back before the expensive part of its life. Every model we price has a three-year manufacturer warranty, with mileage caps that differ by model, so check the one you're ordering.

Personal Contract Hire (PCH) and Business Contract Hire (BCH) both cover road tax for the contract term and delivery to your door. You budget a fixed monthly rental; servicing can usually be bundled in as a maintenance package if you'd rather not think about it.

The Juke is a good example of the case for leasing rather than buying: a small SUV in a crowded class, where equipment and specification move quickly, is a car most people are happier renting for three years than owning for eight.

Which Nissan should you choose?

Start with size and seats, then decide how you want to fuel it. The Micra suits town driving, the Qashqai and X-trail suit families, and the Ariya, Leaf and Micra suit anyone able to charge at home.

For the tightest parking spaces, the Micra is the smallest we price at 3.97 m. For a small SUV with a bit more attitude, the Juke sits at 4.21 m with a boot of 350 to 422 litres depending on version.

For the classic family choice, the Qashqai gives you five seats, a 455 to 504-litre boot and a choice of petrol or self-charging hybrid. Need seven seats? Only the X-trail offers them, alongside a boot of 485 to 575 litres.

Towing a caravan or trailer? The Qashqai is rated highest of the Nissans we price, at up to 1,830 kg braked, with the X-trail close behind at 1,800 kg. The Leaf is rated to 975 kg braked, and the Juke to 1,250 kg.
