About the Nissan Ariya

The Ariya is Nissan's mid-size electric SUV: five doors, five seats, 4.60 m long and 1.66 m tall, with a 466-litre boot that grows to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded. Every version is front-wheel drive and automatic.

Road testers tend to praise the same things – the quality of the interior, how quiet and relaxed it is at a cruise, and light, easy steering that hides the car's width around town. The most common criticism is the ride on poorer surfaces, where it can feel firmer than the softest rivals, and a 130 kW peak charging rate that some newer EVs beat.

The battery is covered by Nissan's eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which guarantees 80% of capacity over that period. Servicing is every 12 months or 30,000 miles.

Why lease a Nissan Ariya?

Because the standard specification is unusually complete, which matters on a lease: you're not paying monthly for options you could have had included. Which Ariya powertrain is right for me?

There's one powertrain: electric, front-wheel drive, automatic. What varies is battery size, and that's the decision that shapes your week.

Electric

Battery capacity runs from 63 kWh to 87 kWh, power from 214 to 239 bhp, and WLTP range from 250 miles to 329 miles. It's a single-speed automatic, so there's no clutch and no gearchange – you press the pedal and it goes, reaching 62 mph in 8.0 seconds.

Charging tops out at 130 kW, giving 10–100% in 35 minutes on the best version, or 6.5 hours at 11 kW at home. If you can charge where you park overnight, the Ariya suits you; if you can't, be honest about that before signing anything. Our electric car guide covers the basics.

Which Ariya trim should I choose?

Engage+

The entry version, with 214 bhp, 19-inch alloy wheels and artificial leather upholstery. It includes anticipatory braking in curves using navigation data, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a leather steering wheel, heated front seats, DAB radio, automatic parking assist and a rear-view parking camera.

The Engage+ is currently available from £353.20 a month.

Advance

Advance starts at 239 bhp and adds a heated steering wheel, a Bose premium audio system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer, a hands-free power tailgate, a 360-degree camera and a 10.8-inch head-up display projected onto the windscreen. Wheels stay at 19 inches, upholstery stays artificial leather.

The Advance is currently available from £418.66 a month. Against the Engage+, that is currently £65.46/mo more expensive.

Seven paint colours are offered across the range, including Aurora green, Gun metallic, Ceramic grey and two-tone White pearl and Plasma green finishes with a pearl black roof and door mirrors. Colour availability can vary by version, so check the individual deal.
