The Nissan Micra is a small electric hatchback, and the current car, on sale in this form since 2025, is electric only. Five seats, five doors, 3.97 metres long and front-wheel drive, it is Nissan's smallest electric model and an easy car to place: town driving, commuting, a second car for a household that can charge at home.

The choice is simple. One body style, one type of powertrain in two battery sizes, and three trims called Engage, Advance and Evolve.

What you're really deciding is how much range you need and how much kit you want, because every Micra drives the same way and comes with the same core safety equipment.

About the Nissan Micra

The Micra is a compact, five-seat electric hatchback with a 285-litre boot, a three-year or 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty and a four-star Euro NCAP rating. The badge dates back to the early 1980s.

Reviewers consistently praise how it drives. Quick steering, good grip and a chassis that stays composed mean road testers rate it as genuinely enjoyable on a country road, not just competent around town.

The other consistent theme is the cabin: soft-touch materials, physical climate controls and clear screens that testers rate above the class average. The common criticism is rear legroom, which is tight for taller adults, so treat the back seats as occasional rather than everyday adult space.

Why lease a Nissan Micra?

Because the standard equipment list is strong for a small car and the running costs are low. Every Micra gets a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, air conditioning, privacy glass, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and an electric parking brake.

Safety kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition. Euro NCAP awarded the Micra four stars, with 80% for adult occupant protection and 80% for child occupant protection.

Two details matter more than they look on paper. Every version has a heat pump, which helps winter efficiency, and the battery carries an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity. Servicing is every 12 months or 30,000 miles.

Which Micra powertrain is right for me?

There's one type of powertrain in the Micra range, offered with two battery sizes. Every version is automatic, front-wheel drive and plugs in to charge, so the real decision is how far you need to go between charges.

Electric

Battery capacity runs from 40 kWh to 52 kWh, power from 120 to 148 bhp, and WLTP range up to 260 miles on the best version. Charging peaks at 80 to 100 kW, and at 100 kW the quickest version goes from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes.

In everyday terms: 0-62 mph takes 8.0 to 9.0 seconds depending on version, top speed is 93 mph, and efficiency is quoted at 4.2 to 4.4 miles per kWh. Insurance sits in groups 21 to 24. It suits drivers who can charge at home or at work.

Which Micra trim should I choose?

Three trims: Engage, Advance and Evolve. Engage covers the essentials, Advance brings the connected navigation and the driver-assistance kit most people notice day to day, and Evolve adds the sound system and the sportier wheels.

Engage

The entry version has 120 bhp, 18-inch steel wheels and cloth upholstery, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a polyurethane leather steering wheel, rear parking sensors and privacy glass. The Engage is currently available from £229.74 a month.

Advance

Advance adds NissanConnect navigation with Google automotive services built in, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go, wireless phone charging, a synthetic leather steering wheel, 18-inch "Iconic" alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, LED headlights, ambient lighting and an auto-dimming mirror. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available as options. The Advance is currently available from £241.79 a month. Against the Engage, that is currently £12.05/mo more expensive.

Evolve

Evolve adds 18-inch "Sport" alloy wheels and a premium Harman/Kardon sound system with nine speakers, plus part leather upholstery, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Its entry version has 148 bhp, and self-steering parking is a factory option. The Evolve is currently available from £278.95 a month. Against the Advance, that is currently £37.16/mo more expensive.

Nissan Micra FAQs

It has five seats, five doors and a 285-litre boot that grows to 1,106 litres with the rear seats folded. It works well for a couple with young children. Road testers consistently point out that rear legroom is tight for taller adults, so check it in person.

WLTP range runs from 198 miles up to 260 miles depending on battery size, with 40 kWh and 52 kWh batteries available. Quoted efficiency is 4.2 to 4.4 miles per kWh. Cold weather and motorway speeds will reduce real-world range, as with any electric car.

Peak DC charging is 80 to 100 kW depending on version. On the best version, a 15% to 80% top-up takes 30 minutes at a 100 kW charger. Most drivers will do the bulk of their charging at home; our guide on how to charge an electric car explains the options.

Three years or 100,000 miles from the manufacturer, whichever comes first. The battery has its own eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity. Servicing is due every 12 months or 30,000 miles, which is worth noting if you're weighing up a maintenance package.

It should be. The car is 3.97 m long and 1.83 m wide (2.02 m including mirrors), with a 10.3 m turning circle and rear parking sensors on every version. A rear-view camera comes with Advance and Evolve, and Evolve can be ordered with self-steering parking.
