The exterior sees a very large front grille holding the firm's four rings logo with thin headlights. The daytime running lights can be set to four different patterns for those who want to stand out on the road. Both body styles look similar but there's a distinctive silhouette for the Sportback from the side - which also impacts the headroom for those sitting in the rear seats.

Alloy wheels come in 19-to 21-inch sizes, and other equipment includes a 10.1-inch infotainment display that is fitted as standard with an 11.6-inch digital instrument display for higher-spec versions. The SUV has a boot space of 525 litres, and it is slightly less for the Sportback because of its sloping roofline.

The Audi Q4 e-tron is built on the same platform as the Skoda Enyaq iV and the Volkswagen ID.4 - though it has the edge for comfort and handling. And since this is an Audi, the cabin is an impressive and comfortable place to spend time. There's lots of space and good visibility from the driver's seat.

The materials used in the cabin are premium and the design impresses.
Behind the wheel, the Q4 e-tron delivers a better driving experience than either the Enyaq iV and the ID.4.

The suspension deals with rough roads and there's good feedback to deliver an enjoyable drive on winding country roads. This is partly down to the adaptive torque vectoring system that will vary the dynamic weight distribution to deliver the nimble handling and enjoyment levels.

The vehicle has yet to be tested by Euro NCAP, but it is packed with safety kit and the Enyaq iV and the VW ID.4 were awarded five stars when tested for crash safety.

Essentially, the Audi Q4 e-tron is not only an impressive car to look at and drive, it's a cracking battery-powered offering in an increasingly competitive segment and for the money, it's an all-round excellent offering.
