The Jeep Compass is a five-seat family SUV, 4.55 metres long, offered with petrol, plug-in hybrid or fully electric power. It's Jeep's rugged-looking answer to the mainstream mid-size crossover, and the current Compass, on sale in this third-generation form since 2025, is a far more conventional family car than the badge suggests.
It suits drivers who want the square-jawed Jeep look and a high driving position, but do most of their miles on tarmac: school runs, commutes, the occasional muddy car park or campsite track.
The choice is straightforward. One body style, three powertrains, two everyday trims in Altitude and Summit, and two 370 bhp electric versions in Upland and Overland.

The Compass sits in the heart of Jeep's UK range as its mainstream family SUV, below the brand's larger and more hardcore off-roaders. Five seats, a boot of 422 to 483 litres depending on version, and a 3-year / 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently praise the space inside, the boxy styling and a cabin built from hard-wearing materials with proper physical switches rather than everything buried in a screen. The common criticism is that it isn't the sharpest or most efficient thing to drive in its class, and that the front-wheel-drive versions are softer than the Jeep badge implies.
It scored 4 stars in Euro NCAP testing, with 80% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection.
Every Compass, whatever the powertrain or trim, comes with adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety and assistance kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam, and front and rear parking sensors. Dual-zone climate control, a wi-fi hotspot and an electric parking brake are included as well.
On practicality, the wheelbase is 2.80 m, the turning circle 10.8 m, and braked towing runs from 1,000 kg up to 1,500 kg depending on version, with the plug-in hybrid topping the range at 1,500 kg. Roof load is 100 kg, and a tyre repair kit takes the place of a spare wheel.

Pick on where you drive and whether you can charge at home: petrol for simplicity, plug-in hybrid if short trips dominate but you still do long runs, electric if home charging is easy.
The 1.2-litre turbo petrol makes 143 bhp through a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, with 0-62 mph in 10.3 seconds. Nothing to plug in, 483 litres of boot space, CO2 of 129-131 g/km and a 1,150 kg braked towing limit. The sensible choice if charging isn't practical.
The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.6-litre turbo with a 21 kWh battery for up to 50 miles of electric range (WLTP), and it's a seven-speed automatic, front-wheel drive. Charge it at 7 kW and the best version goes 0-100% in 2.9 hours. It also tows the most: 1,500 kg braked.
Batteries run from 80 to 103 kWh, power from 210 to 370 bhp, and WLTP range up to 372 miles on the best version. Rapid charging peaks at 160 kW, taking 20-80% in 31 minutes at best. Front- or all-wheel drive, automatic, and quiet with it.

Altitude covers the essentials, Summit adds bigger wheels and parking and comfort kit, while Upland and Overland are the 370 bhp electric versions.
Altitude rides on 18-inch alloy wheels painted in glossy grey, with Eco LED headlights, TomTom level 3 navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloth upholstery and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. A head-up display, 360-degree camera, opening panoramic roof and hands-free tailgate are available as options. The Altitude is currently available from £353.52 a month.
Summit brings 19-inch diamond-cut alloys, Visio Park 1 panoramic visual help with front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass and powered lumbar adjustment for the driver. It also adds matrix LED headlights, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, a rear-view camera, roof rails and automatic headlights. Massaging front seats and wireless phone charging are on the options list. The Summit is currently available from £370.52 a month. Against the Altitude, that is currently £17.00/mo more expensive.
Then there are the two high-power electric Compasses.
Upland is the 370 bhp electric version with all-wheel drive, so it's the quickest way into the range and the most surefooted in poor weather. Over the Altitude it adds a heat pump, which helps preserve range in cold weather, plus roof rails, on 19-inch alloys. The Upland is currently available from £517.07 a month.
Overland takes the same 370 bhp all-wheel-drive setup and dresses it more fully: matrix LED headlights, Visio Park 1 with front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass, a rear-view camera, automatic headlights and an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory. The Overland is currently available from £551.10 a month. Against the Upland, that is currently £34.03/mo more expensive.
