View dealThe Kia Sportage is a five-seat family SUV, 4.54 metres long, sold in one body style with a choice of three 1.6-litre petrol-based powertrains. It's the car most people picture when they think of a sensible, well-equipped mid-size SUV.
In Kia's line-up it sits in the middle: bigger and more grown-up than the brand's small crossovers, a step below the seven-seat models. Buyers tend to choose it for space, equipment and the seven-year warranty rather than for thrills.
Your choice comes down to three things: Petrol, Hybrid or Plug-in hybrid; front- or all-wheel drive on the electrified versions; and four trims - Pure, GT-Line, Storm and GT-Line S.

The Sportage is Kia's family SUV: five seats, a boot of 540 to 591 litres depending on version, and a 7-year / 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty. The current Sportage is the facelifted fifth generation, on sale in this form since 2025.
Reviewers consistently praise the cabin - a clear 12.3" touchscreen, physical buttons kept where they matter, and material quality that embarrasses some pricier badges. Rear passenger space and that big, square boot come up again and again too.
The criticisms are consistent as well: it's comfortable and secure rather than entertaining to drive, and larger wheels firm up the ride. Nobody buys a Sportage for a B-road blast. It'll tow up to 1,650 kg braked, depending on version.
Because the Sportage does the family-SUV basics properly and every version starts from a sensible base. Even the entry trim gets 17" alloy wheels, LED headlights, the 12.3" touchscreen navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a leather steering wheel.
Safety and assistance kit is standard across the range rather than scattered through option packs. Road testers note the driver aids can be vocal, though they're straightforward to turn down.
On a lease, the practical questions we get asked about this car are mileage and towing - if you plan to pull a caravan or trailer, tell us before you order so we spec the right drivetrain and tow bar. Our guide to choosing your car covers mileage and term.
All three share a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, so the real question is how much electrical assistance you want and whether you can plug in at home or at work.
A 1.49 kWh battery and electric motor work alongside the engine for 235 bhp, through an automatic gearbox, with front- or all-wheel drive. It never needs plugging in - the car charges itself as you drive. The all-rounder if your charging options are uncertain.
A bigger 13.8 kWh battery and 283 bhp, again automatic, front- or all-wheel drive. You plug it in to get the benefit, so it suits drivers with a home or workplace charger and shorter regular journeys. Company car drivers usually look here first.
The simplest option: 147 bhp, front-wheel drive, manual or automatic. No battery, no charging, nothing to think about. It suits lower-mileage drivers who want the Sportage's space without electrified running gear - though the Hybrid is often the cheaper monthly rental on a like-for-like trim.

Four trims, and the split is straightforward: Pure covers the essentials, GT-Line adds style and comfort, Storm layers on sound and seat technology, and GT-Line S brings the lighting and roof.
The starting point, and not a poverty spec. You get 17" alloy wheels, LED headlights, the 12.3" touchscreen navigation system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a leather steering wheel. The Pure is currently available from £307.13 a month.
Over the Pure, GT-Line brings 18" GT wheels, leather/suede upholstery, a heated steering wheel and privacy glass in the rear windows and tailgate - mostly about look and feel. The GT-Line is currently available from £318.47 a month, and against the Pure the difference is currently £11.34/mo more expensive.
Storm adds 18" alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, a Harman Kardon premium sound system with eight speakers, a 12.3" driver display screen and an electrically adjustable driver's seat over the GT-Line. The Storm is currently available from £506.84 a month. Against the GT-Line, that is currently £188.38/mo more expensive.
The fullest specification: 18" GT wheels, dual LED headlights with adaptive driving beam, a panoramic sunroof that tilts and slides with an electric blind, a customisable head-up display and smart cruise control with stop and go. The GT-Line S is currently available from £387.41 a month. Against the Storm, that is currently £119.44/mo cheaper. Best value
If you're shortlisting, the Nissan Qashqai and KGM Actyon cover similar family-SUV ground, the CUPRA Formentor takes a sportier line, and the Hyundai Santa FE steps up a size. More from the brand sits on our Kia leasing page.
Specifications from Kia's UK data and Euro NCAP; equipment and availability vary by version, so check the individual deal before you order. A small number of previous-shape plug-in hybrid versions may still be available while stocks last.
