The Vauxhall Combo Life is an MPV built for families who need genuine space rather than a fashionable silhouette. It seats five or seven, and carries up to 1,050 litres in the boot of the best-packaged version.

It sits at the practical end of Vauxhall's line-up, well away from the Corsa and Mokka, and it's the model to look at if an SUV of the same footprint keeps coming up short on room.

The choice is simple: one MPV body, two powertrains - a 1.5-litre diesel or a 52 kWh electric - and four trims, Design XL, Design, Ultimate and Ultimate XL.

About the Vauxhall Combo Life

The Combo Life offers windows, carpets and up to seven seats in a practical MPV body. It's the current Combo Life, on sale in this form since 2024, and it does one job extremely well: moving people and their belongings cheaply.

Reviewers consistently praise the cabin space, the huge boot - between 209 and 1,050 litres with the rear seats in place, depending on the version - and the number of storage cubbies. They're equally consistent that the styling and the hard-wearing plastics are function-first, and that it's comfortable rather than entertaining to drive.

Every version comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, and servicing is due every 24 months or 25,000 miles.

Why lease a Vauxhall Combo Life?

Because you get a lot of usable car for a single monthly rental, with the warranty covering the whole of a typical lease term. The Combo Life's appeal on a lease is its kit list and its practicality rather than any pretence of prestige.

Every version has matrix LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB digital radio, voice control, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights and an electric parking brake.

On safety, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and automatic high beam are standard throughout. Towing is up to 1,300 kg braked on the strongest diesel versions, with a 100 kg roof load and a tyre repair kit instead of a spare.

Which Combo Life powertrain is right for me?

Two choices, and the decision is mostly about mileage and charging. The diesel suits long distances and towing; the electric suits local and urban driving where you can plug in at home or work.

Diesel

The 1.5-litre diesel produces 99 to 128 bhp with manual or automatic gearboxes and front-wheel drive. WLTP economy runs from 45.5 to 57.6 mpg, CO2 from 139 to 150 g/km, and braked towing reaches 1,100 to 1,300 kg. Insurance groups 12 to 16.

Electric

The electric Combo Life uses a 52 kWh battery (50.6 kWh usable) and a 134 bhp motor, automatic only, driving the front wheels. The best version charges 0-80% in 30 minutes at 100 kW, or 0-100% in 4.8 hours on an 11 kW home supply. Braked towing is 750 kg.

Which Combo Life trim should I choose?

Four trims, and the practical difference between them is smaller than the names suggest. Start with the powertrain you want, then decide whether the extra comfort kit on Ultimate matters to you.

Design XL

The diesel entry point, from 99 bhp, on 16-inch steel wheels with cloth upholstery. It brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, air conditioning, adaptive cruise control with Stop and Go, driver attention alert with a monitoring camera, and twin heated electric door mirrors. The Design XL is currently available from £389.23 a month.

Design

Design is the entry point to the electric Combo Life: 134 bhp, automatic, 16-inch steel wheels and cloth trim. Same honest, hard-wearing cabin, but quieter and smoother to drive, and it needs charging rather than filling. The Design is currently available from £381.37 a month.

Ultimate

Ultimate moves to 16-inch alloy wheels and adds a panoramic rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, roof rails and power-folding door mirrors. Adaptive cruise control is available as an option here. The Ultimate is currently available from £408.78 a month. Against the Design, that is currently £27.41/mo more expensive.

Ultimate XL

Ultimate XL is about presentation rather than extra equipment, keeping the 16-inch alloys, cloth upholstery and 134 bhp of the Ultimate, with adaptive cruise control again on the options list. The Ultimate XL is currently available from £418.67 a month. Against the Ultimate, that is currently £9.89/mo more expensive.

Vauxhall Combo Life FAQs

Yes - it's one of the few compact cars offering five or seven seats with a properly square boot. Reviewers regularly single out the headroom, the sliding rear doors and the wipe-clean interior as the reasons families keep coming back to this shape of car.

It varies a lot by version. With the rear seats up you get between 209 and 1,050 litres, and folding them down gives between 1,414 and 3,500 litres. The smallest figures apply with every seat in a seven-seater occupied.

The 52 kWh battery accepts up to 100 kW, and the best version goes from 0-80% in 30 minutes on a rapid charger. At home, 0-100% takes 4.8 hours on an 11 kW supply on the best version. Our charging guide explains the practicalities.

It can, but the powertrain matters. Diesel versions are rated at 1,100 to 1,300 kg braked, while the electric is rated at 750 kg braked. Unbraked towing is 750 kg, and the roof load limit is 100 kg. Check the figure for the exact derivative before ordering.

Three years or 60,000 miles from Vauxhall, whichever comes first. The electric version's battery is separately covered for eight years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of its capacity. Servicing falls due every 24 months or 25,000 miles.

Reasonably. Rear parking sensors are standard on every version and the turning circle is between 10.8 and 11.4 metres depending on wheelbase, which spans 2.79 to 2.98 metres. If you want the panoramic rear-view camera, that arrives on Ultimate.
