The Peugeot Rifter is a five-door estate built around space rather than style: five or seven seats and a boot of 775 to 1,050 litres with the rear seats up, depending on the version you choose. If your life involves prams, dogs, bikes or bulky kit, it makes a lot of sense.

It sits at the practical end of Peugeot's range, below the more car-like family models, and shares its van-derived underpinnings with several sister models. The current Rifter has been on sale in this form since 2024.

The choice is simple. One body style, two powertrains - a 1.5-litre diesel or a 52 kWh Electric - and two trims, Allure and GT.

About the Peugeot Rifter

The Rifter is a family estate with commercial-vehicle roots, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. Reviewers consistently praise the amount of usable space, the flat load floor and the sheer number of cubbies, while noting that the cabin materials are hard-wearing rather than plush.

Depending on version, length runs from about 4.41 m, with 775 to 1,050 litres behind the rear seats and up to 3,500 litres once everything folds. Peugeot covers it with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, and the Electric adds an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of capacity.

Road testers also point out the tall driving position and big windows, which make it easier to place in town than the dimensions suggest. Body roll is part of the deal.

Why lease a Peugeot Rifter?

Because it delivers space and safety kit without a premium badge attached, and a lease keeps you in a car with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty for the whole contract. Servicing is every 12 to 24 months or 20,000 to 25,000 miles.

Every Rifter has a heated steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio, voice control, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, front fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, automatic high beam and an electric parking brake. Autonomous emergency braking is standard across the range.

Which Rifter powertrain is right for me?

Two choices: a 1.5-litre diesel for long-distance and towing work, or the 52 kWh Electric for shorter, mostly local journeys with charging at home or at work.

Diesel

The 1.5-litre diesel produces 99 to 129 bhp with 300 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. WLTP economy is 47.9 to 50.4 mpg, CO2 145 to 155 g/km, and braked towing runs to 1,300 kg on the strongest versions.

Electric

The Electric has a 52 kWh battery (50 kWh usable), 134 bhp and a WLTP range of up to 199 miles. It's automatic, front-wheel drive, and charges 0-80% in 30 minutes at 100 kW on the best version, or 0-100% in 4.8 hours at 11 kW at home. Braked towing is 750 kg.

Which Rifter trim should I choose?

Allure covers the practical basics; GT is the better-equipped, better-shod version and it's the trim the Electric comes in.

Allure

Allure starts at 99 bhp with 16-inch steel wheels and cloth upholstery, and brings Eco LED headlights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heated leather steering wheel, air conditioning, lane-keep assist and Driver Attention Alert level 4 with a driver monitoring camera.

The Allure is currently available from £392.66 a month.

GT

GT adds 17-inch Cerva (Aoraki) alloy wheels on Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV tyres, Digital Visiopark 180 with the rear parking sensors, and front seats that are electrically adjustable, heated and massaging. Adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate, roof rails and power-folding mirrors are included; a fixed panoramic glass roof and a heat pump are factory options.

The GT is currently available from £438.47 a month.

The Electric offers up to 199 miles on the WLTP test from its 52 kWh battery. That suits school runs, commuting and local work, particularly if you charge at home. Braked towing capacity ranges from 750 kg to 1,300 kg, and 750 kg unbraked. Diesel versions are rated between 1,225 kg and 1,300 kg braked, while the Electric is limited to 750 kg braked. If towing matters, choose the diesel and check the figure on the exact version before you order.

Three years or 60,000 miles from Peugeot, whichever comes first. Electric versions also get an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty guaranteeing 70% of the original capacity. On a typical lease term, that covers you for most or all of the contract.
