View dealThe Peugeot 308 Hatchback is a five-seat family car that sits above the 208 in Peugeot's line-up and goes up against the traditional C-segment hatchbacks. It's 4.37 m long, so it slots into a normal parking space without fuss, and the boot holds between 314 and 412 litres depending on which version you pick.
It suits drivers who want a family hatchback with some visual drama rather than another crossover. Reviewers consistently praise the styling and the cabin materials, and just as consistently point out that rear leg room is tight for adults and the low-set steering wheel divides opinion.
The choice here is simple enough: one body style, four powertrains - petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and electric - and three trims, Allure, GT and GT Premium. Every version is automatic and front-wheel drive.

This is the third-generation 308, on sale in this form since 2026. It's a five-door, five-seat family hatchback built around comfort and refinement rather than outright sporting intent, and it's offered with four different powertrains - unusual breadth for the class.
Road testers tend to agree on the character: handsome outside, a genuinely smart cabin, relaxed on a motorway, and a car you should sit in before ordering because of Peugeot's small steering wheel and high-set instruments. Boot space runs from 314 to 412 litres with the seats up depending on the version, up to 1,323 litres folded on the best version, and Peugeot covers the car with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty.
The Hatchback is the shorter, easier-to-park choice; the Estate carries more. Both seat five and have five doors, and both are 1.85 m wide and 1.45 m tall, so the difference is length and load space rather than how they feel from the driver's seat.
At 4.37 m long with a 2.68 m wheelbase, the Hatchback gives up boot volume: from 314 to 412 litres seats-up, against 467 to 599 litres in the Peugeot 308 Estate, which is 4.64 m long. Folded, the gap narrows. Towing tops out at 1,550 kg braked on the best Hatchback version, against 1,500 kg for the Estate. To see both together, use the full Peugeot 308 range.
Because the standard kit list is strong and the choice of powertrain is wider than most rivals offer, which means you can match the car to your mileage rather than compromise. Leasing also keeps you inside the manufacturer warranty for the whole contract.
Every 308 Hatchback, whatever the trim, has adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Safety and assistance kit includes autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and automatic high beam.
Comfort items you'd normally pay extra for are standard too: air conditioning, privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, power-folding mirrors and an electric parking brake. Servicing falls every 12 to 24 months or 16,000 to 20,000 miles depending on version, which is worth checking against your annual mileage before you sign.
Pick by how far you drive and whether you can charge at home or at work - all four are automatic and front-wheel drive, so the gearbox isn't part of the decision.
The 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder makes 145 bhp and 230 Nm, with a six-speed automatic, 0-62 mph in 9.3 seconds and WLTP economy of 48.5 to 62.6 mpg. No plug, no charging routine. It has the biggest boot at 412 litres and tows up to 1,150 kg braked.
The 1.5-litre four-cylinder has 129 bhp but 300 Nm of torque and an eight-speed automatic, returning 50.1 to 59.6 mpg on the WLTP test. It's the tow car of the range at up to 1,550 kg braked, and the one to consider if most of your miles are long motorway runs.
A 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and a 17.2 kWh battery combine for 192 bhp and 360 Nm - the quickest 308 Hatchback at 7.9 seconds to 62 mph. It charges at up to 7 kW, taking 4.3 hours from 0-100% at 7.4 kW on the best version. You need somewhere to plug in, and the boot drops to 314 litres.
The 58 kWh battery (55 kWh usable) and 154 bhp motor give a WLTP range of up to 279 miles, with 361 litres of boot space. Rapid charging peaks at 100 kW, covering 20-80% in 30 minutes on the best version, or 4.4 hours at 7.4 kW at home on the best version. New to EVs? Our electric car guide covers the basics.

Three trims: Allure, GT and GT Premium. All three start from the same 145 bhp front-wheel-drive mechanical base, so you're choosing wheels, lighting, seats and technology.
Allure rides on 17-inch "Bangkok" diamond-cut alloys with cloth upholstery, LED headlights, a heated steering wheel, paddle shifters and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a detachable towbar are all factory options.
GT swaps to 18-inch "Helsinki" diamond-cut alloys and adds matrix LED headlights, connected 3D navigation, front parking sensors, ambient lighting, voice control, and a grained leather steering wheel. An opening panoramic roof, wireless phone charging and blind-spot monitoring are among the options.
GT Premium adds heated front seats and four-way electric lumbar support for driver and passenger, plus massaging front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Upholstery becomes cloth and leather. The panoramic roof stays optional.
If you're weighing up alternatives, the Volkswagen Golf and CUPRA Leon cover much the same ground, while the CUPRA Raval and BYD Dolphin sit a size below. More options on our Peugeot leasing page.
