View dealThe MG MGS5 is a five-seat electric family SUV, 4.48 m long, rear-wheel drive, and sold in one body style only. It sits in MG's electric line-up as the practical family choice: a 453-litre boot, a 7-year / 80,000-mile manufacturer warranty and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
Every MGS5 is Electric, with a 49-64 kWh battery, 168-228 bhp and an automatic drive. Range runs up to 298 miles (WLTP) on the best version, and charging is the only refuelling you'll ever do.
The choice is simple, which is part of the appeal. Two trims: SE, then the more powerful Trophy. Colour aside, that's most of the decision made.

The MGS5 is MG's electric SUV: five seats, five doors, 4.48 m long, with a 453-litre boot that grows to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded. It's a family car first and foremost.
Reviewers consistently note two things. The cabin is a clear step up in material quality on what MG offered before, with physical dials for temperature and volume rather than everything buried in the screen. And rear-wheel drive gives it better balance than most rivals of this size, according to road testers.
What it doesn't have, by general agreement, is drama. It's competent rather than characterful, and the 7-year / 80,000-mile warranty says plenty about the brief it was built to.
Because the standard kit list is unusually complete, and on a lease you're paying for use rather than buying into an EV's future value. Every MGS5 has adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control and roof rails.
Safety is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, a rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Euro NCAP awarded five stars, with 90% for adult occupant protection and 82% for child occupants.
Practically, you get 453 litres of boot space, a 10.5 m turning circle and braked towing of 750 kg. Servicing falls every 12 months or 15,000 miles, which is worth knowing when you're deciding whether to add a maintenance package to the contract.
There's only one: the MGS5 is electric, whichever version you choose. No petrol, no hybrid, no gearbox to think about.
A 49-64 kWh battery, 168-228 bhp, automatic and rear-wheel drive, with WLTP range from 211 miles up to 298 miles depending on version. Charging peaks at 150 kW, and the best version does 10-80% in 24 minutes, or 10-100% in 8.5 hours on a 7 kW home charger. Efficiency is 3.7-4.0 miles/kWh.
It suits you if you can charge at home or reliably at work. If you can't, an electric car is harder to live with, whatever the range claim. Our electric car guide and our advice on charging an electric car both cover that honestly.

Two trims, and they differ in power as well as equipment, so this isn't purely a kit decision.
The SE covers the essentials: LED headlights, satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, on 17-inch alloy wheels with cloth upholstery. It starts at 168 bhp, rear-wheel drive. The SE is currently available from £332.27 a month.
Then there's the quicker Trophy.
The Trophy pairs 228 bhp with 18-inch alloys and two-tone leather-style upholstery with cloth inserts, adding a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, privacy glass, power-folding mirrors and rain-sensing wipers. It's currently available from £342.83 a month. Against the SE, that is currently £10.56/mo more expensive.
If you're weighing up alternatives, the Leapmotor C10, OMODA 5, Kia EV4 and Vauxhall Frontera are all worth a look, or browse the wider MG range.
