The MG MG3 is a five-seat small hatchback built for town driving, short commutes and first-car duty - the smallest car MG sells in the UK, and the one that asks the least of you day to day. It's 4.11 m long, easy to park thanks to a 10.5 m turning circle, and covered by a 7-year / 80,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
There's one body style, so the decision is simpler than most. You choose between a 1.5-litre 114 bhp petrol manual and a 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid with 191 bhp and an automatic gearbox, then between SE and Trophy trim.
The current MG3 has been on sale in this form since 2024.

The MG3 is MG's supermini: a conventional five-door hatchback with five seats, sitting below the brand's SUVs and electric models. Reviewers consistently describe it as generously equipped for its size, comfortable around town and unexpectedly quick in hybrid form.
Boot space runs from 241 to 293 litres with the rear seats up depending on which version you pick, rising to 983 litres with them folded. Road testers are less kind about cabin plastics and the touchscreen menus.
It carries a 4-star Euro NCAP rating, with 81% for vulnerable road user protection and 74% for adult occupants. The 7-year / 80,000-mile warranty is unusually long for this class.
Because the standard specification is strong from the entry trim up, which matters more on a lease than on a purchase: you're paying for a fixed term, so kit you'd otherwise pay extra for is kit you actually get to use.
Every MG3 has built-in navigation, a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors, air conditioning, DAB digital radio, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Driver assistance covers lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and autonomous emergency braking as standard.
Practically, it seats five, takes a 75 kg roof load and will tow up to 500 kg braked. Servicing falls every 12 months or 15,000 miles, and there's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare wheel - one of the small things we'd flag before you order. Two choices: a 1.5-litre petrol manual, or a 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid automatic. Neither plugs in, so charging never enters the picture - the difference is gearbox, pace and running costs.
The 1.5-litre petrol produces 114 bhp and 148 Nm through a five-speed manual gearbox and the front wheels, reaching 62 mph in 10.8 seconds. WLTP economy is 46.3 mpg with CO2 of 137 g/km, and it has the bigger 293-litre boot. It suits lower-mileage drivers who want a simple car and prefer three pedals.
The hybrid pairs the 1.5-litre engine with a 1.8 kWh battery for 191 bhp, 425 Nm and 0-62 mph in 8.0 seconds, through a three-speed automatic. It charges itself as you drive and returns 64.2 mpg WLTP with 100 g/km CO2. Boot space is 241 litres. Best for stop-start town miles and anyone who wants an automatic.

Two trims: SE, which covers the essentials properly, and Trophy, which is the hybrid's better-equipped option and adds the comfort and safety kit most people notice.
SE rides on 16-inch "Atlas" alloy wheels with cloth upholstery and LED headlights, and includes satellite navigation with speed limit recognition, Android Auto, and a rear parking camera with reverse sensors. It's the 114 bhp entry version, and honestly there's little you'd call missing.
The SE is currently available from £247.68 a month.
Trophy is the 191 bhp hybrid, on the same 16-inch "Atlas" alloys but with part leather trim. Over SE it adds a leather-style multifunction steering wheel, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, front parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers and an electric parking brake.
The Trophy is currently available from £272.87 a month.
