There's also a mild hybrid for the petrol engine, known as EQ Boost, which uses a 48-volt onboard network to add 22 HP to the vehicle's output. The sprint time for the petrol engine is 5.7 seconds with 155 mph as its top speed and economy of 34 mpg.
Equipment and handling
When it was relaunched in 2019, the Mercedes GLE offered drivers a seven-seat configuration for the first time along with the carmaker's impressive new multimedia system. There are two 12.3-inch display screens, Nappa leather upholstery and lots of driver assistance systems, including blind spot assistance. The air suspension system delivers a comfortable ride and there's the 'Hey Mercedes' voice activation system to make life easier. Drivers also get 20-inch alloy wheels as well as privacy glass and a stylish oak wood trim. Mercedes have also added a parking package that features active parking assist to help park what is a large car safely. The GLE also has traffic sign assist and two-zone climate control. Other packages offer wireless charging and parking assistance with a 360° camera while others add a top-end surround sound system and an impressive filtering and fragrance system for refreshing the air in the cabin. Overall, the interior design is impressive - it's a premium offering and a lovely place to spend time on long journeys. It helps that there is also space for rear passengers and the boot is also a good size and adds practicality. The GLE is great to drive around town, particularly with the optional air suspension system, but it really comes into its own on long motorway jaunts. Essentially, the Mercedes GLE offers a luxurious and large SUV that delivers sharp handling, lots of refinement and high comfort levels - it's a really impressive vehicle that is easy to live with.
