With its high level of refinement and excellent off-road performance, the Land Rover Discovery is a great all-round SUV. It been a popular choice for many years and the latest model offers an impressive package for those who want a functional workhorse with lower running costs and more space.
There is a good choice of engines available for the Land Rover Discovery including a 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel unit producing 240 bhp which will return 44 mpg. For those who need the extra power, there's an excellent supercharged 3.0 litre V6 petrol unit that produces 258 bhp but can be pricey to run. The Discovery has an eight-speed automatic transmission fitted as standard which is a smooth performer and helps the vehicle deliver its excellent off-road abilities. Fuel economy for the Discovery ranges from 26 mpg to 44 mpg.
The Land Rover Discovery is competing in a market dominated by SUV's offering lots of comfort and refinement but none of them can match the Discovery's ability for going off-road. However, it's just as practical for those who are on the school run or who want a solid vehicle for everyday use. The boot measures a useful 1,137 litres and will rise in size to a huge 2,400 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.
The new model has a revamped interior and lots more equipment. There's a 10-inch infotainment system, an optional Wi-Fi hotspot and nine USB ports. All models come with 19-inch alloy wheels, climate control and the firm's terrain response system. Other models come with a panoramic glass sunroof, satnav, leather upholstery and larger alloy wheels. Those who opt for the HSE Luxury models will have soft leather seats, an electric sunroof, entertainment for those in the rear seats and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Essentially, the Land Rover Discovery offers drivers a vehicle that's great to drive around town and along country lanes but for those who need to go off road, there are very few rivals out there that can match this level of performance.
